Re-evaluation of JEE Main Result 2023

After the declaration of JEE Main Result 2023, NTA does not accept any requests for re-evaluation of JEE marks and percentile. The NTA score, percentile, and AIR mentioned in JEE Main Result 2023 is final. However, before the declaration of result, you are allowed to challenge JEE Main answer key. JEE Main result are released based on the final answer key prepared after taking into account the challenges raised, if any.

JEE Main Percentile Score

JEE Main Result 2023: What is JEE Percentile Score?

NTA JEE Main result and rank are based on the percentile score obtained after the normalization process. JEE Main Percentile Score refers to the percentage of candidates who score equal to or less than that specific percentile in the exam.

  • The percentile score for JEE Main 2023 are obtained based on the relative performance of all the candidates appearing in the exam.
  • Therefore, the topper (highest score) of each session gets the same percentile of 100 which is desirable.
  • The marks obtained in between the highest and lowest scores is also be converted to appropriate percentiles.

What is the difference between JEE Main Percentile and Percentage?

JEE Main percentile and percentage are completely different concepts. Percentile is a relative concept while the percentage is an absolute concept.

JEE Main Percentile indicates what percentage of candidates have scored below that percentile. Your JEE Main Result mentions your percentile score. The formula used to calculate the same is:

(Number of candidates in the session with aggregate marks less than that obtained by the candidate x 100) / Total number of candidates appeared in that session

JEE Main Percentage is calculated based on the actual marks secured by the student. Although it is not mentioned in your JEE Main Result, you can calculate it by using the formula:

(Marks Obtained/ Total Marks) x 100

NTA JEE Main Result 2023: Normalization Process

JEE Main 2023 is held in 2 sessions in multiple shifts. Some shifts might be easier than others in terms of the difficulty level of questions asked. This affects the marks secured by the aspirants across shifts- those who appear for a tougher exam are likely to get lesser marks than the ones who attempt the easier exam.

  • Hence, to adjust the difficulty level across sessions and shifts, NTA might use the score normalization process.
  • Through the normalization technique, it is ensured that JEE Main result neither benefits nor puts any candidate at a disadvantage.
  • To calculate JEE Main result and rank, NTA uses a formula to calculate the percentile score in total and for each subject.

JEE Main Percentile Score: How is it Calculated?

JEE Main percentile scores are calculated for each session as ‘percentile scores of total raw scores’. The percentile score is calculated up to 7 decimal places. It must be noted that the final result is prepared after merging JEE Main percentile scores obtained for each session.

Tabulated below is the formula used by NTA to calculate the overall and subject-wise JEE Main percentile score:

NTA JEE Main Percentile Score Calculation Formula
Total Percentile (T1P) (100 x No. of candidates from the session with a raw score equal to or less than T1 score) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Mathematics Percentile (M1P) (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than M1 score in Mathematics) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Physics Percentile (P1P) (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than P1 score in Physics) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session
Chemistry Percentile (C1P): (100 x No. of candidates appeared from the session with a raw score equal to or less than C1 score in Chemistry) / Total No. of candidates who appeared in the session

What is JEE Main 2023 Final Result?

As JEE Main 2023 is conducted in 2 sessions, the final JEE Main result 2023 is released after the second session i.e., April. For JEE Main 2023 final result, NTA merges the percentile scores obtained in all sessions and accordingly assigns AIR to the candidates. JEE Main final result contains the below-mentioned details:

  • Total scores obtained in JEE Main June/ July attempt
  • The best of the two JEE Main scores, in case candidate appears for both sessions
  • JEE Main 2023 All India Rank
  • Category of the candidates
  • JEE Main cut off for JEE Advanced 2023

JEE Main Rank List Preparation

JEE Main 2023 Result Rank List

JEE Main 2023 Result Rank List is prepared based on the percentile scores obtained in all sessions. JEE Main Rank list is released along with the cut off for JEE Advanced 2023. Candidates are allotted category-specific ranks along with the All India Ranks. The process of JEE Main rank list preparation includes the following 4 steps:

  • Distribution of Test-takers in 2 Sessions- June/ July: Firstly, NTA makes sure to equally divide the test-takers across both the exam sessions to ensure no bias in the distribution of candidates across shifts and sessions.
  • Preparation of JEE Main 2023 Raw Scores: Before the calculation of percentile scores, raw scores need to be calculated using the formula:

JEE Main Raw Score = 4 marks x number of correct answers - number of wrong answers x 1

  • JEE Main Percentile Score Calculation: Based on the formulas mentioned in the section above, JEE percentile score will be calculated.
  • Calculation of NTA score and Preparation of JEE Main Rank List: The percentile scores of different sessions as calculated above would be merged and called the NTA scores. These will then be used for the declaration of final results and preparation of the overall JEE Main All India Rank list.

JEE Main Tie-Breaking Criteria

Test-takers with equal total NTA percentile scores are placed in JEE Main 2023 result rank list using the tie-breaking rule or inter-se merit criteria. The tie-breaking rule varies as per the papers- paper 1, paper 2A, and paper 2B. However, it must be noted that if none of the rules can resolve the tie, then the candidates with equal scores are awarded the same JEE Main 2023 rank. In this section, you can go through the detailed JEE Main tie-breaking or inter-se merit rule for each paper.

JEE Main Tie-breaking Rule for  Paper 1 (B.Tech/ B.E)

  4. Test-takers with lesser negative responses

JEE Main Tie-breaking Rule for Paper 2 (B.Arch/ B.Planning)

For resolving ties in JEE Main paper 2A and paper 2B respectively, the below-mentioned order of score priority will be followed to rank candidates with equal JEE Main 2023 percentile scores:

JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) Tie-breaking rule (order of priority) JEE Main Paper 2A (B.Arch) Tie-breaking rule (order of priority)
NTA Score in Mathematics NTA Score in Mathematics
NTA Score in Aptitude NTA Score in Aptitude

Ques. My friend has got 77K AIR in JEE Main. He wanted to know if he should go for GNDU Amritsar or GNE Ludhiana?

● Top Answer By Sagardeep on 02 Mar 23

You are considering pursuing either mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. We highly recommend you consider GNE Ludhiana. The Amritsar Campus of GNDU only offers three B.Tech streams: Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, and Urban Planning. However, the mechanical and civil engineering streams are available at the regional campus of Sathiala and were established in the 2014 batch. The faculty for Computer Science and Electronics at GNDU is exceptional. However, it is important for you to research placement statistics and other relevant information before making a final decision. If your rank is 77k, there may be a slight chance for you to get into mechanical engineering at GNE. However, there is an option for you to change streams after one year if there are any vacant seats in your preferred department....Read more

Ques. Which is better: JEE or BITSAT?

● Top Answer By Tanvi Jaipuriar on 27 Feb 23

Comparing competitive exams or choosing one over the other is a very illogical thing to do. The entire agenda behind a competitive exam is to build your knowledge and test you on the basis of the same. So unless you defer from gaining the right set of knowledge, any competitive exam will bear the same result. I have a very effective technique to tackle this issue. Prepare in such a way that you are appearing for JEE Advanced. This is because the course and structure of Advanced are such that once you are ready to clear that, you can clear every other exam too. This means your focus will not be divided and all you can do is focus on one exam. Keep focusing on the preparation for JEE Advanced and when your BITSAT is around the corner start solving mock tests to improve your speed. Prepare additionally for English and Logical Reasoning questions. BITSAT focuses more on your speed than the clarity of your concepts. So a mere preparation of 3 months before BITSAT is more than enough provided that your concepts are clear from JEE Advanced preparation. So instead of choosing one single exam, prepare for JEE Advanced and target both as the future is unpredictable. ...Read more

Ques. How can I score 250 in JEE Mains?

● Top Answer By Juhi Gupta on 16 Feb 23

A score of 250 out of 360 in Mains is difficult but not impossible. Your performance depends on your capacity to grasp concepts and your former knowledge. For some, it might be a cakewalk while for some it might be an unattainable number despite the relentless effort. The syllabus is elaborate so one should have a lot of time to prepare. If you are serious about scoring 250 follow the simple tips I have mentioned below Aim for a score that is higher than 250 and then only after tremendous efforts will you be able to touch the 250 mark. Choose a wise mentor who will guide you throughout your exam preparation. Continuous revision will do wonders for your preparation. Even if you are confident in a certain topic, keep revising so that the flow is not broken. Work on your weaknesses rather than ignoring them. My friend had joined the Filo-app. One-to-one sessions with tutors helped her a lot in making her understand and practice Math concepts. Take mock tests regularly, about once or twice a week. This helps you identify the areas you need to work on and prepares you well. Lastly, you need to stay optimistic as this journey you have embarked on is tough and requires a lot of determination and motivation. Take care of your health, both physical and mental....Read more
