MHT CET 2023 reservation will be structured according to the Government of Maharashtra's reservation policy and India's reservation rules. Under the Directorate of Technical Education, the Maharashtra government holds some reservations of seats for the state's backward caste and other reserved classes. MHT CET Reservation 2023 Highlights

The MHT CET reservation would only apply to candidates belonging to Maharashtra State, conditional to compliance with the eligibility criteria provided by the authorities concerned from time to time.

Reservation Categories

MHT CET 2023 Category-wise Reservation

Candidates can refer to the table provided below for details on the different Maharashtra state seat reservations. Around 50% of backward-class seats are reserved in the state of Maharashtra. The 200 MHT CET Seats Reservation will be based on Maharashtra's diverse backward class. OBC (Other Backward Class) has 19 per cent more seat reservations than Maharashtra 's Schedule Tribe and Scheduled Caste. Then, the rest will be for the categories of General and others.

Reservation Details

MHT CET Reservation Details

All the reservations provided will only apply to candidates who belong to the Maharashtra State. This is subject from time to time to fulfillment of the eligibility criteria stated by the respective authorities. The percentage of reservations is the percentages of seats available for candidates from Maharashtra which comes under the CAP. 

The percentage of seats reserved for candidates from backward class groups from the state of Maharashtra is as shown below. 

Reservations for Women Candidates

In accordance with the provisions of Government Resolution No. (123/2000)/ GEC-1000 / Tech. Edu.-1, which is dated April 17, 2000, there is a reservation of 30 percent seats for women candidates. There will be no reservation for female candidates who come under the categories of Defense, Persons with Disabilities, and Orphans.

Reservations for Children of Defense Service Personel

Five percent (5 percent) of an institution's total approved intake, subject to a limit of five ( 5) seats in each CAP institution, is reserved for children of ex-service personnel residing in Maharashtra State (DEF-1). Children of active military personnel domiciled in the State of Maharashtra (DEF-2).

This includes: 

  • Children of active service staff (DEF-3) who are transferred to the state of Maharashtra but are not domiciled in the state of Maharashtra.
  • Even those who are not domiciled in the State of Maharashtra but their families are stationed in the State of Maharashtra under the provision of family accommodation retention at the last duty station on grounds of education for children. This is considered if the candidate has appeared and passed the HSC examination from a college or school in the state of Maharashtra. 

Who falls under the Children of Defense Service Personnel category?

  • Such seats are within the granted intake and are considered as State Level seats. 
  • A single merit list of all qualifying candidates for DEF1, DEF2, and DEF3 will be prepared. 
  • Candidates who claim certain seats shall, as appropriate, submit additional documents in Proforma C , D and/or E. 
  • This provision is not given to the children of Indian Defense Service's civilian staff. 

Reservation for Persons with Disabilities (PwD Candidates)

Five percent (5 percent) of all CAP institutions' overall approved intake seats are reserved for applicants with a minimum threshold disability of 40 percent.

  • A single list of merits of all eligible candidates will be drawn up. The allocation of seats reserved for Candidates with Disability will be done on an inter-se merit basis. These seats are required in HU / SL seats for candidates domiciled at Maharashtra. 
  • The candidates who claim reservations under this category must submit the certificates from the competent authority for issuing such certificates. The certificate (Pro-forma) will state explicitly that the impairment level is not less than 40% and that the condition is permanent in nature. 

Note: Candidates with disabilities must note that no allowances or additional facilities in academic activities other than those offered by the respective universities upon admission to the degree course are provided. 

Reservations for EWS Candidates

In accordance with the provisions of Government Resolution No. राआधो -4019/31/16-अ which is dated 12 February, 2019, 10 percent of seats will be reserved for candidates from the EWS. The Competent Authority will fill these seats through CAP as stated from time to time by the Government's policies. These seats are to be in excess of the sanctioned intake. 

Reservations for Orphan Candidates

One percent (1 percent) of CAP seats are reserved for Orphan Candidates (with the exclusion of Minority institutions, All India Seats, if any). The Competent Authority will fill these seats through CAP according to the Government Resolution, Department of Women and Child Welfare, No. AMJ-2011/C.R. 212 / Desk 3 which is dated 2 April, 2018 and the Government's policies stated from time to time.

How to Apply for Seat Reservation for MHT CET 2023?

  • Students wishing to claim a reservation should fill out the online application form for MHT CET 2023, which will only be available online. 
  • Applicants are required to submit the caste certificates and other valid certificates when filling out the preference form. 
  • Applicants will not be granted seat reservation if they fail to submit the completed MHT CET 2023 seat reservation form. 
  • Candidates must send the Caste Certificates and the Caste / Tribe Validity Certificate to apply for MHT CET 2023 seat reservation.

Authorities that Issue Documents for MHT CET Reservation

  1. Caste/Tribe Validity Certificate: The authorities which would grant the Caste/Tribe Validity Certificate are: 
    • Divisional Caste Scrutiny Committee of respective Divisional Social Welfare Office (Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Amravati, Nagpur and Latur) gives Caste Validity Certificate for applicants who belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Caste converts to Buddhism, Vimukta Jati (v), Nomadic Tribes c, d & M and Other Backward Classes.
    • Commissioner/ Jr. Commissioner, Tribe Scrutiny Committee of respective Region [Kokan (Thane), Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Amravati, Nagpur, Nandurbar and Gadchiroli] provides the Tribe Validity Certificate to applicants who belong to the Scheduled Tribes.
  2. Caste certificate issuing authority: Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Executive Magistrate /Metropolitan Magistrate in Maharashtra will provide the certificate that recognizes the caste under a particular backward category.

Preference Form for MHT CET Reservations 2023

  • Once the MHT CET 2023 merit list gets declared, all candidates will be invited to complete the preference form. 
  • These forms must be filled in at the Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur & Aurangabad centers. 
  • Candidates are required to meet all eligibility criteria and provide the documents as prescribed. 
  • These documents include Photo ID Proof, Domicile Certificate, Nationality Certificate, HSC Certificate / Mark Sheet, Constitutional Reservation Claim, Specified Reservation Claim, Medical Fitness Certificate, Additional Weightage Claim and SSC Certificate / Mark Sheet / School Leaving certificate / Birth Certificate.

Reservations Exceptions

Exceptions to MHT CET Reservations 2023

Exceptions are there in the MHT CET 2023 reservation categories. All candidates from any class of Scheduled Tribes (ST), Vimukta Jati (VJ / DT – v), Nomadic Tribes (NT & c), Nomadic Tribes (NT & d), Nomadic Tribes (NT & M), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) that include SBC. These applicants will be asked to display their name in the non-creamy layer certificate as stated in government resolution to assert the benefits under the reserved category. If the applicant does not obey the same, and demands the reservation illegally, he / she will be prosecuted under the Caste Certificate Act, 2000.


Points to be Remembered for MHT CET Reservations 2023

  • The MHT CET reservation will only apply to candidates who belong to the Maharashtra State, subject from time to time to the fulfillment of the eligibility criteria set by the respective authorities. 
  • The percentage of reservations is the percentages of seats available for candidates from Maharashtra, which come under the CAP. 
  • During the time of submission of the CAP application form, candidates who belong to the backward class may assert the group to which they belong. 
  • The exam conducting body will draw up a single list of merits of all qualifying candidates. 
  • The allocation of seats reserved for Candidates with Disability will be made on an inter-se merit basis.

Eligibility Criteria for MHT CET 2023

The candidates must be Indian nationals and should have finished their 12th standard or equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry , and Mathematics from a recognized board / university. Applicants who are to appear for the Class 12th board exams in 2023 can also apply. There will be no age limit to appear for the examination.

Candidates of Maharashtra State (State Quota) Nationality: Only Indian Nationals are eligible. Educational Qualification: Applicants who have passed HSC / equivalent examination with Mathematics and Physics as mandatory subjects with any of the subjects – Chemistry / Biotechnology / Biology / Technical / Vocational. The applicants should have acquired at least 50 percent marks in these subjects (for the general category) and at least 45 percent marks (for reserved category and PwD candidates who belong to the Maharashtra State only).

Must have passed B.Sc.Degree from a recognized university as established by UGC with at least 50% percent aggregate marks (for General category) and a minimum of 45 percent aggregate marks (for Backward Class/ Persons with Disabilities who belong only to Maharashtra State). Such candidates must have passed class XII in the field of Mathematics.

Maharashtra State Candidature

Since reservation is provided only to candidates from Maharashtra, it is essential to know the Maharashtra State Candidature. 

Candidature Type Eligibility Criterion
Type A Applicants from a recognized institution in the state of Maharashtra who pass SSC and also Diploma in Engineering or HSC or Bachelor of Science Exam. Candidates for whom Maharashtra is home and/or their birth place.
Type B Candidates not falling in Form A but Maharashtra's domiciles are his / her mother or father. (They must have a certificate of domicile).
Type C Candidates not falling into Type A or Type B but their mother or father is an employee of the Indian Government or Government of India Undertaking. Before the deadline for submission of MHT CET applications, either of the parents should be posted and reported to duty at Maharashtra.
Type D Candidates not falling into (Type A, B and C category), but either of their parents are employees of or retired from Maharashtra Government or the Maharashtra Undertaking Government.
Type E Candidates completing SSC and/or HSC Exam from a recognized institution located in a disputed border region of Maharashtra-Karnataka and whose native language is Marathi.
