NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: For B.Sc Nursing

  • Age Limit – The minimum of the candidates planning to appear for NEET 2023 to take admission in B.Sc Nursing should be 17 years as of Dec 31, 2023. 
  • Minimum Qualification – Candidate should have passed in the subjects of PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and English individually.
    • He/ She must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in PCB in class 12.
    • If a candidate has completed class 12 from State Open School which is recognized by NIOS in the above-mentioned subjects can also appear for the exam. 
    • For reserved category candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying marks i.e. candidates with 40% in class can apply and appear for NEET 2023. 
    • English is a compulsory subject in class 12 for being eligible for admission to B.Sc. (Nursing).
  • Reservation Policy – For Divyangjan candidates: 3% Disability reservation to be considered with a disability of locomotor to the tune of 40% to 50% of the lower extremity and other eligibility criteria with regard to age and qualification will be same as prescribed for each Nursing program.

  • Students who have passed the class XII qualifying exam are eligible to apply for NEET.
  • Candidates must have Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as their subjects in Class XII and should have passed in all the subjects. 
  • Class XII is the basic qualifying exam, but the qualifying marks differ according to the candidates’ category. 
  • Candidates need to fill the appropriate NEET Qualifying Examination Codes in the online application form.

Ans: Based on NEET eligibility criteria NIOS candidates are also eligible to appear for NEET exam if they fulfill all the required minimum criteria.

Qualifying Exam Codes for NEET 2023

All those candidates who apply for NEET have to select a code for the qualifying examination. The details of Code 1 to 7 are given below in the table:

Qualifying Examination Codes
Code 01

This code is for 12th Standard candidates in 2022, whose results are awaited and apply for the exam.

These candidates must have qualified the class 12th exam by the time of admission, otherwise, they will be considered ineligible.

Code 02

Candidates who are in Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education have to put this code. 

Code 03 This code is for candidates who have done their Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science at an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Biotechnology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject. 
Code 04

Candidates who have completed their Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination have to choose this code.

The Preprofessional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical tests in these subjects and also English as a compulsory subject.

Code 05 This code is for candidates who have completed the first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and candidate has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.
Code 06 Those who have taken B.Sc. examination from an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Biotechnology and further that he/ she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English have to choose this code. 
Code 07

Candidates with have qualified any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology; which shall include practical test in these subjects) have to choose this code.

The exam should be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

NEET Eligibility for NRI Students

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: For NRI/ Foreign Students

  • Candidates who have studied abroad and want admission in medical colleges in India must have passed in Chemistry, Physics, English, and Biology/Biotechnology with 50% marks in Class XII and their equivalency is determined by the Association of Indian Universities as MCI regulations and the concerned university. 
  • This includes candidates who took the IB (International Baccalaureate)/GCSE/Advanced Placement curriculum in school.
  • IB candidates in India are also eligible for NEET. 

As per the latest notification by NTA, OCI/ NRI/ PIO/ Foreign nationals are now eligible for admission to medical/ dental/ ayurveda/ unani/ siddha/ homoeopathy seats subject to the rules and regulations issued by the respective state government or the govt. of India.

NEET Eligibility for 15% AIQ Seats

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: For 15% All India Quota Seats

  • Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
  • 15% of the total seats are segregated as All India Quota (AIQ) seats. To take admission via AIQ, candidates need to take part in Online Counselling for NEET conducted by MCC.
  • After 2 rounds of counseling, if any seats remain vacant under AIQ, they will be converted into State Quota seats.
  • The merit list will have equal number of names as seats under the All India Quota, candidates will thus be allocated their seats directly. Those that will be put on the waiting list will be guided by the directions of the DGHS (Director General of Health Services).
  • Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will now participate in 15% All India Quota Counselling and will not require the submission of a self-declaration form. 

For Candidates from UT of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh

  • Candidates from J&K and Ladakh are not eligible for 15% AIQ seats as these two opted out of the All India Scheme.
  • Therefore, to claim eligibility candidates have to submit online self-declaration.
  • This self-declaration page will be generated automatically along with the confirmation page and must be kept for reference for the time of counseling. 
  • The Self Declaration Form submitted by the candidate will be verified at the time of counselling. If any discrepancies are found in the same then this may lead to the cancellation of the candidature. 
  • Candidates from the UT of J&K and Ladakh can appear in NEET 2023 for admission to Private Medical/Dental/Ayurveda/Siddha/Unani/Homeopathy Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and AFMC, AIIMS, JIPMER subject to the fulfillment of respective eligibility conditions.

NEET Eligibility for State Quota

NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: For State Quota Seats

All India Rank and All India Quota Merit List will be prepared based on NEET Cut offNTA will provide all of the required information to the DGHS who will then forward it to the mandated state medical councils. The state medical councils will prepare their own merit lists for counselling based on a multitude of factors such as the applicant’s eligibility based on domicile requirements.

The states participating in NEET will fill the remaining 85% of their MBBS/BDS seats through state counseling as per the following norms:

  • Aspirants must have completed/appeared in 10th and 12th class exam from the state.
  • Candidates should have valid address proof and domicile of the state.
  • Admission through these seats will be subject to reservation policy and eligibility criteria prevalent in the State or Union Territory.
  • For State counseling, candidates must contact the relevant state counseling authority for details. Deemed private universities will conduct their own counseling procedures, and candidates must apply for admission independently. Candidates who wish to take admission into AFMC must apply separately on their website since they will hold a second screening process. 

The following persons can apply for admission under the state quota:

  • Indian Nationals
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  • Overseas Citizen of India (OCIs)
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)
  • Foreign Nationals

NOTE: Candidates who are foreign nationals have to confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/ Dental/ Siddha/ Unani/ Ayurveda/ Homeopathy College/ State. 


NEET Eligibility Criteria 2023: Attempts Limit

In 2018, the cap on NEET attempts limit had been removed but during that time the upper age limit was being followed where candidates above 25 years of age were not allowed to appear for the exam. 

  • Also in 2018, the age limit criteria was challenged by candidates in the Supreme Court.
  • In a recent announcement made by NMC, the upper age limit requirement for NEET UG has been scrapped officially.  
  • Therefore, for NEET 2023, there is no limit on the number of attempts and also no limit on upper age criteria.

Ans.
