Preparation Strategy

NMAT 2022 Preparation Strategy

Here are tricks candidates can follow to prepare the quant section for the NMAT exam.

Mock Tests

Practice as many mock tests as you can. This will give you an idea of how much you have progressed so far. It will also help you know how much time you should be devoting and the time required for each section. Download NMAT Practice Papers

Weak section

Make sure you devote your time for preparation on the weaker sections. This will help you relax in your further studies. So, make sure to get to know your weak areas and start working on them.

Revision

Revision is the best way out to get what you already learnt. Brushing up on the basics is an important task. Revise daily what you learn the previous day.

Shortcut tricks

NMAT tests you how fast and accurately you can solve the questions. Attempting questions using shortcuts will help you with the extra time that you can invest in other questions or devote it for section revision.

Time Management

One of the advantages of NMAT is that there is no negative marking. Do not stick on a question, it is advisable to skip and jump to the next question. That’s how you can manage and save time for questions you can attempt. NMAT not just checks your ability to solve hard questions but it tests your ability to solve maximum questions in the given time. Solve NMAT Mock Tests

Topic-wise Preparation tips

Arithmetic in NMAT Quants

  • Arithmetic plays a crucial role in Quant preparation as it is a kick-starter.
  • A major portion of Arithmetic helps in the Data Interpretation preparation.
  • Once the arithmetic topics are complete the rest of the topics will be really easy to cover as arithmetic is the base.

Number Systems NMAT Quants

  • Number Systems is a vast topic and contributes around 1-3 questions in the NMAT exam.
  • There is a range of topics under Number Systems – Factors and Multiples, HCF and LCM etc.
  • In Number System one needs to understand the basics: Factors, Multiples, etc and there are no specific solving techniques and shortcuts required.

Algebra

  • Algebra is also the most important topic following Arithmetic.
  • Algebra is an interesting topic fully based on formulas, so it should be prepared with fun.

Modern Maths

  • Modern Maths is the favourite topic of the NMAT exam.
  • A lot of questions are asked from the Modern Maths section, so it should not be ignored.
  • 5-6% of the NMAT exam of the Quantitative Aptitude portion is from Modern Maths.

The topics covered in the Modern Maths syllabus for NMAT exam are as follows:

  • Set Theory
  • Binomial Theorem
  • Permutation and Combination
  • Probability
  • Sequence and Series

NMAT 2022 Preparation Tips

Few of the tips to crack the quantitative skills section in NMAT EXAM:

  • Candidates must have good command on all the concepts, fundamentals, formulas etc.
  • Practice is the key to success. Best way to score good marks is to solve as many mock tests, previous year question papers as possible.
  • While you are giving the mock test try to avoid using calculators as this may decrease your speed in solving questions.
  • Try to use a timer and try to solve the questions of the mock in the given time. This will help in building the speed and saving your time in the examination.
  • Try to learn the short cut methods to solve the tricky questions and practice them as much as you can, only then you will be able to apply these tricks in the exam.
  • Make notes of all the formulae to memorize them and try to revise them daily.
  • Candidates must devote time on basic concepts for every topic. First, finish with the tough topics.
  • Refer to the previous papers and solve every type of question.
  • Avoid using a calculator and do all calculation manually.
  • Apply basic tricks ensuring speed and accuracy.
  • Revise all the concepts at least twice a week.
  • Solve as many questions as you can i.e PRACTICE as much as you can.

Ques. Did anyone get a very good percentile in CAT even after he was not able to clear the cut off of exams like IIFT and NMAT?

● Top Answer By Turja Das on 13 Dec 21

Yes, there are many students who are unable to clear IIFT but do well in CAT. The broad sections of IIFT are the same as CAT, except that they have the additional General Knowledge section.  The weightage for the GK section is low. Also the type of questions in VARC and DILR is different. VARC: only 16 out of 35 Questions are Reading Comprehension. DILR: More Data Interpretation questions are present than Logical Reasoning. Out of a 300 mark paper only 30 marks is for GK which is 10% weightage. The cut offs for GK is also low, around 5 marks, which technically is 2 correct questions. Overall cut off for IIFT was 138 marks in a 2 hour paper whereas for CAT was 76 marks for 95 percentile. Therefore, IIFT is comparatively easier than CAT. NMAT is like the GMAT exam. You cannot go back to a question. You need to complete a section in a limited time. Here strategy is important. Skip the questions you do not know the answer to, because wasting time for that is not useful. The question type of NMAT has a specific pattern. You have 3 RCs, a few questions on Probability in the Quant section and one or more sets of Sequential Output tracing sets in Logic....Read more

Ques. What is scaling in NMAT? If I give an exam in the last few days how much? I have to score for NMIMS Mumbai. Will scaling affect the score in the last few days?

● Top Answer By Ashwin Jog on 14 Mar 23

If you are planning to take the NMAT exam, you might find it interesting that the exam is conducted in a unique way. Despite being driven by the profit motive, the exam's multiple windows, multiple slots, and multiple combinations of questions make it next to impossible to game the test. The exam does not give you the time to think about which questions to do, nor is it needed. During the exam, you will have to decide whether to attempt a question or skip it within a few seconds. If you decide to attempt it, you should try to solve it as quickly as possible. If you cannot solve it after trying, mark a random option and move on to the next question. There is no question palette, so you will not know how many questions you've attempted properly unless you're keeping count mentally. This might be difficult during the test due to time constraints. Scaling and normalization are used to ensure a uniform difficulty level for all test takers and evaluate them accordingly. Therefore, the premise that the last few days will negatively affect the score seems to be flawed. Moreover, there is no need to worry too much about the cutoffs for NMIMS Mumbai. It is better to try to maximize your score regardless of the cutoffs or scaling. If you are interested in pursuing a management program, you might want to consider NMIMS Mumbai. However, keep in mind that the cutoffs for this institute vary and can be difficult to predict accurately. It is also important to note that scoring above the cutoffs is not a guarantee for admission, as there is a lot of competition for a limited number of seats. If you want to enhance your chances of getting into a top-notch B-school, you may want to consider XLRI, which is particularly famous for finance. Gaining industry experience and taking up a finance course like CFA or FRM can also help you become eligible for the Indian School of Business and other world-renowned colleges. Remember that admission to a B-school is a combination of factors, including academic performance, aptitude, and personality, so focus on developing a well-rounded profile....Read more
