WBJEE 2023 is going to be conducted for two papers – Paper 1 for Mathematics from 11 AM to 1 PM and Paper 2 for Physics & Chemistry from 2 PM to 4 PM. The Syllabus of the exam is based on Class 11th and 12th Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The syllabus is at par with other engineering exams such as JEE Main and BITSAT.   • As per WBJEE 2023 Exam Pattern, the exam is conducted as two papers viz. Paper I – Mathematics & Paper II – Physics and Chemistry (combined). Candidates are required to appear for both the papers to be eligible for admission.
  • WBJEE is conducted as an OMR-based offline test. There are 75 questions in Mathematics and 40 questions in Physics & Chemistry each.

How to Download WBJEE 2023 Admit Card?

  • Visit the official website of WBJEE- wbjeeb.nic.in
  • Click on the “Download WBJEE Admit Card” Link.
  • Enter your application number and password in the login portal.
  • Click on submit and WBJEE Admit Card will appear on your screen.
  • Check all the details and download it.

WBJEE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have passed class 12th from a recognized board with at least 45% marks are eligible to apply for WBJEE 2023.

Domicile requirement for WBJEE is required to be eligible for counseling process. The domicile criteria are required for-
- any seat in any Government-aided Engineering/ Technology/ Pharmacy Colleges.
- 90% for general category seats in Jadavpur University.
- any seat in Aliah University.
- any seat including general category seats in B.Tech (Dairy Technology) in West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences
- any reserved category seat (SC, ST, OBC- A, OBC- B, PwD, TFW) in any course in any institute.

How to Fill WBJEE 2023 Application Form?

Candidates can follow the steps below to fill WBJEE 2023 Application Form​

  • Step 1: Visit the official website of WBJEE 2023 at wbjeeb.nic.in and click on the ‘New Registration link.
    • Fill in the details like name, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, gender, type of identification and contact number.
    • Preview the details filled in the registration and then click on ‘Submit’.
    • After the successful submission of the registration form, an application number is sent to the registered mobile number and the provided email ID.
  • Step 2: After successfully filling WBJEE 2023 Application Form, login to the candidate portal using the received application number and the password that you have created and fill in all the details required in WBJEE 2023 Registration Form.
    • Candidates will also have to choose three zones of cities to be allocated as their exam center.
  • Step 3: Upload scanned images of your photograph and signature as per the specifications provided by the authorities.
  • Step 4: Pay WBJEE 2023 Application Fee through online mode.
  • Step 5: Save the soft copies of the application form and fee receipt and also get a printout of the same for future use.

  • Candidates can edit their domicile status, PwD status, category, and other details through WBJEE 2023 Application Form Correction.

WBJEE 2023 Exam Pattern

  • WBJEEB has been conducting WBJEE in offline mode only as an OMR-based examination.
  • Candidates are required to select the right answer by darkening the appropriate circle completely on WBJEE response sheet with a blue/black ballpoint pen.
  • WBJEE 2023 consists of 2 papers, each allotted a different time slot on the same day. Each paper is held for 2 hours.
  • There are three categories of questions asked in WBJEE-
    • Category 1- 1 mark questions with a negative marking of ¼ for each incorrect answer.
    • Category 2- 2 mark questions with a negative marking of ½ for each incorrect answer.
    • Category 3- 2 mark questions with no negative marking.

  • There are three categories of questions in WBJEE 2023.

WBJEE 2023 Answer Key

  • WBJEEB releases WBJEE Answer Key in two phases. First, the provisional answer key is released which is open to challenge. Only after all the objections raised have been processed, WBJEEB releases the final set of WBJEE Answer Key. 
  • WBJEEB also releases the OMR image responses for the candidates to evaluate, analyze & predict their scores.
  • In case the candidates feel that there are misprints in their OMR Responses or are not satisfied with the correct answer of the question they can opt for a review by ‘Challenging Responses’ or ‘Challenging Answer Key’ respectively.
    • In such cases, the candidate has to submit INR 500 for each response he wants to be reviewed.

The process of downloading the OMR response key and WBJEE 2023 Answer Key comprises the following steps:

  • Visit WBJEE 2023 official website and click the link to download WBJEE Answer Key.
  • Enter your registration number, password and security pin.
  • All the recorded responses will be displayed along with the official answer key.

WBJEE 2023 Result

  • WBJEE 2023 Result is published online on the official website along with the final answer key.
  • Candidates need to download the result scorecard by logging in to the official website of WBJEE- www.wbjeeb.nic.in. Results are not shared with any candidate individually.
  • WBJEE 2023 scorecard includes candidate's marks of each subject along with the ranks in the categories eligible.
  • Candidates obtaining marks more than the set WBJEE Cut off are called for the counseling in order of ranks indicated in the merit list.

How to Check WBJEE 2023 Result?

  • Visit the official website of WBJEE 2023 at wbjeeb.nic.in
  • Look for the link “WBJEE 2023 Result” and click on it.
  • Login by entering your Application Number, Password and Security Pin as mentioned on WBJEE Admit Card.
  • WBJEE Result 2023 and Scorecard will be displayed on the screen
  • Download the rank card and take a printout for future reference.

  • Candidates’ marks in WBJEE 2023 would be a major criterion for determining their rank.
  • As the overall seats for Government Colleges are limited, only about 1.2%- 1.8% of candidates are able to get admission.
  • Aspirants aiming for admission into top engineering colleges in West Bengal such as Jadavpur University, usually require a rank above 300 to get branches such as Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.

WBJEE 2023 Merit List

WBJEE merit list includes the names of the candidates shortlisted for counselling and further admission process, marks obtained in Paper I (Mathematics), Marks obtained in Paper-II (Physics & Chemistry), total marks secured, and category-wise overall rank.

WBJEEB releases WBJEE Merit List soon after the results are announced. Candidates require entering their login credentials i.e., application number and password to check the merit list. Candidates qualifying the merit list will be eligible to participate in WBJEE 2023 Counselling and admission procedure.

  • WBJEEB considers the marks secured and subject taken by a candidate in WBJEE exam.

According to reports, out of the 65170 candidates who appeared for WBJEE 2021, 99.5% (64850) candidates qualified. The table below shows the previous year's WBJEE candidate statistics and the qualifying percentage over the years.

WBJEE 2023 Counselling :

WBJEE counselling will be conducted separately for every successfully qualified candidate. The online registration for the counselling procedure will begin after the declaration of result. Seats of various colleges will be allotted to the candidates in various rounds as per their ranks in the Merit List of WBJEE 2023.

WBJEEB usually conducts two rounds of WBJEE counselling followed by a mop-up round. WBJEE rank holders will be able to participate in all three rounds of WBJEE counselling 2023 while JEE Main rank holders will be able to participate in only one round (by paying a fee of Rs. 500).

For a candidate to gain admission in their preferred course and institute, WBJEE 2023 Counselling procedures can be divided into 4 major steps. After the final step, document verification of candidates will be conducted at the reporting centres. The steps of the counselling process are briefed below.

  • Step 1 : Aspiring candidates who have either qualified WBJEE 2023 or JEE Main 2023 will need to register themselves for the counselling process. The registration can be done only on the official site i.e. wbjee.nic.in by filling in the details required. On successful registration, candidates will be provided with the ID & Password which has to be noted & kept safely for future use.
  • Step 2: The next step to counselling after successful registration is payment of INR 500 as WBJEE Counselling Fees.
  • Step 3: After the payment is made, candidates will be provided with the opportunity to choose institutes for seat allotment. Candidates should be very cautious while Filling and Locking choices of institutes. It is advised to select the maximum possible number of institutes/branches (at least 20). This ensures seat allotment.
  • Step 4: Once the institutes are selected, the candidates will be alloted seats based on their ranks & preference. The candidates will be able to check their allocated seats on the official site by logging into their accounts.
    • After the allocation of seats the candidates will be provided with the facility to -
    • Accept the seat
    • Accept with the possibility of upgrading to higher choices
    • D0 nothing
    • In case of acceptance, the candidate will need to pay the seat acceptance fee (₹5000 for allotment in Govt. Institutes, ₹5000 for allotment in TFW category and ₹40000 for allotment in Pvt. Institutes) and download the provisional; allotment letter, which is subject to successful physical verification by the concerned institute.
  • Step 5: Upon making the payment, the Virtual Reporting Centres (VRCs) will verify the documents uploaded by the candidates & will intimate the candidate about the status of approval/rejection SMS. The candidate will then have to log in & check the reason for rejection. The facility to re-upload the rejected document will be provided for a certain amount of time. Candidates can also contact the Central Control Room of WBJEE for any help required.

Ques. Can I give WBJEE twice?

Ans. Yes, candidates can give WBJEE twice, However WBJEE is conducted only once a year. WBJEE 2023 is being conducted on April 30, 2023. Candidates aspiring to appear in the exam can appear in the next year. 

Ques. What are the courses that candidates can take admission in through WBJEE?

Ans. WBJEE 2023 is conducted for admission in Undergraduate courses like Engineering, Technology, Pharmacy and Architecture. Candidates who qualify WBJEE 2023 and satisfy the eligibility criteria for the participating colleges can take admission in these courses. 

Ques. Is WBJEE easier than JEE Mains?

Ans. WBJEE can be considered a relatively easier exam than JEE Mains as it is a state level common entrance test for admission to undergraduate courses in the participating courses across the state of West Bengal. Since JEE Main is a national-level exam conducted for admission to undergraduate Engineering, Technology, and Architecture courses, the difficulty level is higher.

Ques. How should I start preparing for WBJEE?

Ans. With less than a week left for WBJEE 2023, candidates should focus on revising some of the important topics. Candidates should ensure that they stay calm before the exam and try to solve a few question papers before appearing in the exam. 

Ques. What will be the type of questions in WBJEE 2023? Is it all MCQs?

Ans. Yes, WBJEE 2023 will consist of Multiple Choice Questions only. Each question will have 4 options as answers. Candidates will have to select one correct option & shade the appropriate circle on the OMR Sheet with their Black/Blue Ball point pen.

Ques. Can I still apply for WBJEE 2023?

Ans. WBJEEB has released the application form for WBJEE 2023 on December 23, 2022. Registration for WBJEE 2023 will be concluded on January 20, 2023. Candidates can now download the admit card from the official website for WBJEE 2023, which is to be conducted on April 30, 2023. 

Ques. What is the distribution of Questions in various subjects of WBJEE 2023?

Ans. WBJEE 2023 will be conducted on April 30, 2023 for two Papers. Paper I will be conducted for Mathematics whereas Paper-II will be conducted for Physics and Chemistry. Physics and Chemistry will consist of 40 each question while Mathematics will consist of 75 questions. 

Ques. Will there be any negative marking in the WBJEE 2023 examination?

Ans. Yes. The total number of questions for each subject will be divided into 3 categories, wherein, Physics & Chemistry will have the same number of questions in each category i.e. 30, 5 & 5 in category 1, 2 & 3 respectively; whereas Mathematics will consist of 50, 15 & 10 in category 1, 2 & 3 respectively.

There are different positive as well as negative marks for the 3 different categories of questions.

Ques. Is maths compulsory to appear in WBJEE 2023?

Ans. WBJEE is conducted for admission to undergraduate courses in the field of Engineering, Pharmacy, Technology, Architecture and Pharmacy. Candidates can choose to appear in both Paper I- Mathematics and Paper II- Physics and Chemistry or only in Paper- II.  However candidates who appear only in Paper II will be eligible only for Pharmacy courses except in Jadavpur University, where candidates can seek admission for any course.

Ques. Can I appear for WBJEE 2023 in online mode?

Ans. WBJEE 2023 will be conducted as a pen and paper-based test on April 30, 2023. Paper I for Mathematics and Paper-II for Physics and Chemistry will be conducted in two shifts from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm respectively. The counselling process for WBJEE 2023 will be conducted in online mode.

Ques. I am a Biology student. Am I eligible to appear in WBJEE 2023?

Ans. As per the general eligibility criteria for Engineering and technology courses, candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with either Biotechnology/Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science/Technical Vocation Subject. Candidates aspiring to appear in WBJEE 2023 for Pharmacy courses are required to have passed Class 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology as compulsory subjects. Thus Biology students are eligible to appear for WBJEE 2023.

Ques. Are 12th marks important for admission through WBJEE 2023?

Ans. As per the general eligibility criteria for admission through WBJEE 2023, candidates should have passed Class 10+2 with at least 45% (40% for reserved category candidates). Candidates should also have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 30% in English. 

Ques. What will be the tie-breaking criteria if two candidates secure the same rank in WBJEE 2023?

Ans. If two candidates secure the same rank in WBJEE 2023, Tie-breaking criteria for General Merit Rank and Pharmacy Merit Rank will be used. If tie still persists, date of birth of the candidate will be taken into consideration for breaking the tie. The older candidates will be given preference over the younger candidates.
