Taking the first step towards Data Science: National University of Ireland, Galway

    Ireland stood out to be the best option for me. I got to know about the college from an online portal. There were many criteria on which I decided to take admission here. Unlike in other countries, the course was cost-effective. I particularly loved the hospitality and the way locals accept and behave with foreign nationals. Therefore, I filled up the application fee of ?35, because it stood out to be the option for me.

    Course Curriculum :

    I was good at mathematics and coding and thus took up the course of data science. The data science course is designed in a way that In this we are taught how to build an outstanding portfolio of data science skills, while simultaneously studying a relevant Arts discipline to Joint Honors level. I have really enjoyed learning about how to analyse, interpret and visualise data correctly, and how valuable and useful these skills are in such a massive range of careers and sectors, now and even more so into the future.

    Exams :

    Admission in the course of Data Science was a bit competitive. Thus, to become eligible, I had to take TOEFL and SAT, in which I scored 95 and 1180 respectively. Also, I had to submit my 10th and 12th class marks-card wherein I had a percentage of 87% and 90% .

    Placement :

    The placement opportunities after data science in Ireland specifically is really excellent. A career in Data Science means that I will always have a wide range of exciting opportunities to choose from. My senior who got picked up in a sports firm, analyse the performance of an international sports team. Also, the degree includes an eight-month off-campus work placement in the third year, if not placed.

    Internship :

    I managed to do a fellowship under my professor of data science during the second semester. I worked on the data analysis, and interpretation on one of his projects. This helped me to build critical and analytical skills. I was paid an amount of ?3,000 for one month.

    Events :

    The college organizes festive events such as Warm Feet; Warm Heart, Craft Fair, Festive Tree lighting ceremony. Other events include Mindfulness, Mojofest and Arts Festival

    Fees :

    I paid a tuition fee of ?16,650 p.a as an international student. Also, the fee structure included ?224 p.a. as a part of student levy and ?3,000 p.a. of student contribution. Apart from that, I had an opportunity to receive a fee waiver of ?5,000 on my tuition fee.

    Scholarship :

    I managed to secure a fee waiver of ?5,000 on my tuition fee. I was given a fee waiver based on my academic scores of Class 10th and 12th which were 87% and 90% respectively.

    Faculty :

    The small size of the class let me know other students in the class and the Data Science lecturer personally. Although my professors changed after the second semester he was in constant contact with us offering help with any problems. Before both Semester 1 and Semester 2 exams, he offered us individually help with any questions we had regarding the subject.

    Hostel :

    I stayed in the University-owned Corrib Village .Corrib Village is a gated complex, which is located on the NUI Galway campus. It has facilities such as High-speed Wi-Fi, Pick up buses to college, Sports facilities, Shop & launderette, 24-hour security. I paid an amount of ?5,600 for the double bedroom shared accommodation.
