i. Audit Courses, Defence Proposal Pre-Requisites and Procedures
This mode requires students to audit the following taught courses in the first semester of the programme:
1. INFO 6900 ? Research Methodology for IT
2. INFO 6010 ? Islamic Worldview, IT and Society
Other courses which are related to the research area may be audited or attended based on the Supervisor?s recommendation.
Within six (6) months from the registration date, the students are required to submit his/her research synopsis proposal which need to be defended. Pre-requisites for the defence proposal are:
1. Attend the PG seminar that will be held once every fortnight in the semester at least two (2) times.
2. Do a presentation in this seminar at least once.
Upon approval, the student will continue his/her research.
The final thesis needs to be submitted at the end of the study period. There will be at least two (2) examiners to evaluate the final thesis, one of whom must be from other than IIUM. The appointment of all examiners shall be recommended by the Kulliyyah Postgraduate Committee (KPGC) and endorsed by the University?s Senate. An oral defence of the thesis will be arranged once agreed by the examiners.
A Master?s thesis is an important scholarly achievement which must be maintained at certain standard. The thesis must show the originality of work and should contain work of merit to be presented in satisfactory literary form (including references, notes and bibliography, as appropriate), should not be of unnecessary length and should provide evidence of training in application of research methods appropriate to the particular field of study. Plagiarism is considered to be a serious offence.
In line with the vision and mission of the University, it is highly recommended that the thesis should reflect to some extent an attempt to incorporate some Islamic perspective on issues explored.
