109 Government Arts and Sciences Colleges in Chennai Go for fully Online Admission Process


Colleges in Chennai have gone fully online for admissions during the pandemic. The higher education department has announced that admission to 109 government arts and sciences colleges will be conducted online for over 92,000 seats.

Among such colleges is Loyola College. The Principal of the college said that they used to call students for verifying certificates and for interviews, but this time, the processes will be carried out online.

The college intends to use a Digi-locker facility to verify the students’ scores. The interviews are likely to take place over apps such as Google Meet.

The college is introducing two commerce courses, namely B.Com Accounting and Finance, and B.Com Computer Applications. These courses are based on emerging areas such as blockchain and data analytics. “These are two new courses that will cover recent developments in fintech technology. It will open global opportunities to the students,” the Principal added.

Madras Christian College also has moved its admission process online. The college has already opened an online portal for applications. After uploading, the applications will be ranked and sent to the concerned departments automatically. The college may also move the enrolling process online.

In Ethiraj College for Women, students usually give interviews in person. However, this year there is a possibility that the college may conduct the interviews online, said the Principal of the college. Ethiraj College for Women is also introducing two new postgraduate courses: M.Sc in Psychology and MA in Human Resource Management.

DG Vaishnav College is also planning to hold interviews through video conferencing.

According to an announcement by the higher education minister, applications for admission to 109 government arts and sciences colleges will be available from 20 July onwards at www.tngasa.in and www.tndceonline.org.

The state has also launched new portals for polytechnic colleges. Students can apply at www.tngptc.inor and www.tngptc.com.
