Analysis on Top IIMs and ISB Alumni: Consulting Domain


When thinking about pursuing a course in MBA from a B-School, among the many doubts that go through a student's mind is where to go after that? Where exactly to find business opportunities?

According to the detailed analysis of the Alumni, we can come to a conclusion as to how the success rate of the top B schools in India can be calculated. This analysis has to be made considering statistics and data associated with alumni of b-schools. 

These analyses are an estimated compilation of data that is publicly available on professional networks such as LinkedIn.

Among the most noticeable patterns that can be observed emerging in this analysis are IIM Calcutta and IIM Ahmedabad. The alumni from these institutes are employed in high concentrations at the top preferred consulting firms in the country.

Additionally, out of the 15 companies that are present in the analysis, 8 have high numbers of alumni from the mentioned institutes. 

20% of the mentioned companies also have a considerable concentration of alumni from XLRI. In companies such as KPMG and the Dutch Advisory, we can even see that XLRI alumni surpass those from the two IIMs in sheer numbers.

Among the low concentration categories at the listed companies, we can see alumni from institutes such as JBIMS, IIFT and TISS. The reason for their low representation in these companies can be attributed to the size of their academic batches. 

The number of students per batch at institutes such as IIM is relatively larger than that of the above-mentioned colleges. 

When looking at the company-wise division of distribution of alumni from the included institutes, it is observed that a considerable number of Alumni are present at companies like Deloitte and Accenture. This can be attributed to the mass recruitment that Accenture has carried out at these institutes over the previous years. 

Out of all the alumni from IIM Ahmedabad, an enormous 36% are currently employed at the MBB firms. Additionally, a massive 60% of all IIM Calcutta alumni are currently working at Deloitte and Accenture.

The analysis also depicts that out of all the alumni from every b-school, a majority of them work at EY, Accenture, and Deloitte. Among the firms with the lowest alumni representation are Roland Berger, EY-Parthenon, and a few others. 

IIM Bangalore's alumni are employed in large numbers at various MBB firms, particularly at Bain & Company, which has been one of the top recruiters at the institute. Out of the 15 firms listed in the analysis, IIM Bangalore has at least 20% concentration at 10 of them.

Moreover, IIM Calcutta also has a high number of alumni at 11 of the 15 included firms.

Among the institutes with the lowest alumni representation at the 15 companies are SIBM Pune and MICA Ahmedabad. This low representation can be attributed to the job preferences of students from these institutes and their desired job profiles.
