Anna University to Start UG Engineering Classes From Today

Colleges affiliated to Anna University have begun their new session from November 23, 2020. The online classes have been a regular course structure in this pandemic situation.

Colleges have now adopted the internet broadband connectivity, digital mentorship programs, membership to virtual labs, equipping teachers with laptops and tablets for maintaining their education standards.

The revised academic calendar was released by the university and the orientation programs were conducted with full force. Technical and practical classes for the first semester engineering students have begun.

Anna University (AU), Chennai will be conducting the first semester exams in the month of December usually, but due to the delay in the admission process the exams will be held in February 2021.

Existing students have been given personal guidance for online classes. Each teacher is allotted with a batch of 15 students. One of the common problems faced is to recreate the laboratory experience. Colleges have signed up for virtual labs but cannot be compared to the real life experience.

“We subscribed for mass membership for a virtual lab so that students do not lose out on the experimenting experience,” said the head of the mechanical engineering department from an engineering college. Another problem many colleges faced was teaching maths online.

Hoping that the digital teaching ends soon, many faculties are using virtual boards at chrome to teach the students.

Colleges which have spread up to digital learning are located in tier I cities. Some teachers, on condition of anonymity, said that many of their students have very flaky internet connections.
