Bharathiar University: 3 Constituent Colleges Converted to Government Colleges; Know Details Here

Around 3 constituent colleges of Bharathiar University have been converted into Government Colleges by the Tamil Nadu State Government. This will reduce the financial burden of the university and students will benefit by paying nominal fees.

These Constituent Colleges of Bharathiar University will be turned into Government Arts and Science colleges. Two of the colleges among them are located at Thondamuthur and Pollachi and another college is at Modakurichi in Erode district. 

The conversion of the BU constituent colleges has been done as a part of converting 27 constituent colleges of the state universities into government colleges. Earlier, the TN government converted 14 constituent colleges into Government Colleges.

As per the sources from the higher education department, the state government has ordered the varsities to look into the matter and disburse salaries to the teaching and non-teaching staff of the colleges for the current academic year. 

Meanwhile, the teachers warmly welcomed the decision of the state government as it would be beneficial for the students as well as the universities.

President at the TN Government Colleges Association, Veeramani said that the fee structure of the state universities is higher when compared with the government colleges. And this move will make higher education better and more affordable for the students as they can pursue and continue their higher education. 

With better infrastructure and facilities, the college would get a status of autonomous, by which the students can avail of scholarships and other benefits provided by the state government, he said.

Thirunavukkarasu, Zonal President, Association of University Teachers, said that the state government may add up more seats and courses to these colleges from the upcoming academic year. 

Until last year, these constituent colleges were functioning out of the government school buildings and now the state government had allocated funds to construct separate buildings and it will reduce the financial burden on BU as the varsity was paying the salary of the teaching and non-teaching staff from its fund. 

Thirunavukkarasu also said that there's no clue about the teaching and non-teaching staff of the constituent colleges as government staff would be appointed over there. 

While Veeramani has urged the state government to take immediate action and appoint the teachers to their respective posts in the colleges and appoint eligible government faculties at the earliest.
