Dr. M S Shashidhara is working as a Professor and Head in the Department of Master of Computer Applications, The Oxford College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has 28 Years of Experience in Projects, Teaching, and R & D. He has an M.Phil, M.E., & Ph.D. in Computer Science. He is an approved PhD guide in VTU, many students are completed Ph.D under his guidance and 5 research scholars are pursuing Ph.D at present. He has published 3 books & several research papers in national & international journals. Also, he is a member of Computer Society of India(CSI), Life member of Indian Society for Technical Education(ISTE) and A Senior member of IEEE. He has organized many National & International IEEE Conferences, Technical Fests, Workshops, FDPs, Webinar and Guest lectures for the benefits of both students and faculties. He is a recipient of the prestigious “SARVOTHAMA ACHARYA PURASKAR”, a National award for impact creators in Engineering Education. His expertise in this domain is unmatched.

What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

  • To develop leadership qualities in students via involvement in Co-curricular and Extracurricular activities.

  • Focusing students to become self entrepreneur by opening start-ups companies

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Good faculty-student relationships begin with conversations”

Classroom teaching should be able to influence, engage, and excite the student. Students need to feel that the teachers in the classroom care for them and support them in all their quests. A positive classroom culture helps create emotional and physical assurances for the student, leading to a spurt in student-teacher engagement and a healthy learning environment.

A healthy discussion beyond the curriculums among the staff members and discussion about the Innovative Research Project establishes unity. Student Personal growth Counselling system & Mentoring System also helps. 

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects & make it industry-oriented?

“Industry visits, internships, interactions and a focus on learning via research”

Theoretical studies such as reading academic papers, exploring academic research, and delving into research methods help students learn the ins and outs of their field of specialization. Conducting seminars, webinars, Guest Lectures, and workshops from industry experts on related subjects helps them understand the applicability of it in the industry. Additionally, an industry Internship is mandatory during the study, which empowers them to ready for the industry.

How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

“College is striving to train the students towards their higher education via guidance & career counselling”

 After completion of PG courses generally, 5 % of students opt for higher education studies such as Ph.D. and M.Phil or MS from foreign Universities, another 5- 10% will go for self entrepreneurship and rest will go for settling in industrial and teaching jobs.

  • Career Counselling: the Career Resource Canters have employed proficient counsellors who are familiar with the contemporary industry trends. 
  • Workshops: The students are given insights on the topics such as designing an impressive CV with the assistance of the latest tools and techniques, the use of different applications, etc.
  • All-inclusive Training: Provide Training on Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative skills for competing for GRE, TOFEL, UGC-NET, and GATE examinations 

How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world?

“Constant appreciation & adequate encouragement to morally support our students”

  • Accentuate the positive - Praise, encouragement, and acknowledgment of progress can go a long way in motivating students.
  • Set expectations and consequences - Students must be clear about what they need to do to succeed. 
  • Introduce competition - Most children are naturally competitive; this can be a powerful tool to motivate students outside of the classroom.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/programs to enhance the skills of the students?

“We are regularly organizing Tech-Fest, Workshop, Seminars, Conference to expose them to real-world challenges”

  • National/International Conference: We organize National & International Conference namely NCSEM to provide a unique Platform for Our Students to enhance their knowledge and get benefited from Industry Expert Talks.
  • IGNUS: The flagship techno-cult-socio fest of The Oxford College of Engineering.
  • OXYTECHBIZZ: Explore Money & Project Exhibition & Competition: This event teaches how to earn money through the internet. 
  • OXYTECH: a National students’ convention and Techno-cultural Fest, was organized by the students of MCA with ISE/CSE departments.
