A 2-day Advanced Technical Training Program on “BIM Software Tools”, for Fresh Civil Engineers and Students was conducted at Vasireddy Venkatadri Institute of Technology, Namburu, from March 08, 2018 to March 09, 2018. All the Civil Engineering Students, Faculty of Civil Department of VVIT and registered candidates from nearby institutes participated in this program.

Management members Sri Badari Prasad, Secretary, Sri M. SreeKrishna, Joint Secretary and Dr. Y. Mallikarjuna Reddy, Principal, Dr. T. Sreedhar Babu, HOD, Civil Engineering, Prof. N. Kumaraswamy, Dean Academics, felicitated the Chief Guest Sri K. Srinivasa Murthy, as a token of respect for his scholarly sessions.

felicitated the Chief Guest Sri K. Srinivasa Murthy, as a token of respect for his scholarly sessions.

Prof. N. Kumara Swamy, Convener of this Training program, Dean of Academics, VVIT, informed that the program will have four technical sections. The morning section on first day consisted of Basic concept of BIM, Evolution of BIM, Advantage of BIM, Role of Participants in BIM process. The noon section on first day consisted of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in India, Barriers in implementation of BIM, BIM standards, BIM Tools. On the second day, the first section dealt with Architecture and Structural tools, Revit Architecture and Structures, Revit Structural Analysis and the concluding section had Robot structural analysis, Energy Analysis Tools, Shadow Analysis Tool and Lighting Analysis Tool.

Sri K. Srinivasa Murthy, Director (Engineering), Vigilance and Enforcement Department informed that there is a need of awareness to upcoming civil engineers about various tools and technologies which were adopted by developed countries in order to serve society in a fruitful manner by applying their knowledge in. He commended the efforts of VVIT for organizing these kinds of advanced training programs for the faculty and students for providing a conducive environment for training. He also appreciated the participants for being active learners. Principal of VVIT Dr. Y. Mallikarjuna Reddy addressed that various software tools are used in different disciplines of Civil engineering in this decade. He also said that upcoming Civil Engineers must have expertise in various related software in order to compete with competitive world.

Dr. T. Sreedhar Babu, Head of the Department, Civil Engineering

Dr. T. Sreedhar Babu, Head of the Department, Civil Engineering informed that a shift in process and expectation is happening in the Indian construction market following the economic bloom and gloom, and architects are stepping up to the challenge. The focus is shifting from traditional 2D based to a practical reality with respect to functional, economic, energy, etc. All disciplines involved with a project can share a single database. Architecture, structure, mechanical, electrical, infrastructure, and construction are tied together and challenge to coordinating them is possible. Energy analysis can be done at early stage of design, and construction costs are becoming more predictable.

He added that BIM allows the use of a parametric 3D model to auto-generate traditional building documents such as plans, sections, elevations, details, and schedules. Drawings produced using BIM supported software are not of manually coordinated lines, but interactive representations of a model. The changes made in this Model are automatically coordinated throughout the project, which eliminates the coordination mistakes, improves the overall quality of the work. Dr. Babu further said every Civil Engineering student must be aware of this technology for integrating their core knowledge with it.
