“There is no substitute for hard work and dedication to the job”, Dr. Sushil shares some meaningful life lessons with the young aspirants

Dr. Sushil’s academic specialization is in Strategic Management, Managerial Economics, Industrial Relations, Labour Economics, International Business. With over 47 years of experience in teaching, Dr. Sushil has more than sixty academic publications. Currently serving in Sir Padampat Singhania University as the Dean-School of Management, Dr. Sushil has also worked as a Chief Editor in Indian Journal of Banking and Finance 1990-1991 Vol. 4, and International Journal of Finance & Economic Studies and as an Associate Editor where he completely designed and published 4 volumes of Journal of Tourism and Hotel Management, Journal of Banking and Finance and Management Journal-Publication Incharge.

Dr. Sushil’s educational qualification include Ph.D.; D.C.L.L. (Diploma in Labour Laws, Labour Welfare, and Personnel Management) from the University of Jodhpur; M.Com and B.Com. He has more than seventy research publications and has 25 Ph.D. research scholars.

Dr. Sushil’s experience in the education sector

I am working in University teaching, research and administration for last 47 years and I have great satisfaction that I served the best nation-building sector which prepares managers, administrators and judicial officers who monitor entire nation as well as the judiciary. I take pride in saying that my students have risen to great heights in all walks of life.

Dr. Sushil’s philosophy of leadership and his leadership style

The joint effort of all colleagues in a democratic way enables us to achieve goals. In my 9 years of working at SPSU, I have learned to motivate colleagues to work for the vision of the university.

Significant challenges faced by Dr. Sushil as the Dean- School of Management of Sir Padampat Singhania University

It was because of a global vision of SPSU that a number of MOU were signed for the exchange of students and faculty at international level.    

A few of them are Chiba University of Commerce, Japan, Mendel University, Czech Republic and College of Management Academy, Israel. Every student at School of Management has a chance to attend global exchange programmes and day to day expenditure is borne by the University, the student pays international fare only. For the safety of students, SPSU sends, at its cost, a faculty who remains with them for the entire period of exchange.

The biggest challenge was the selection of students for such programmes. Involving all the faculty members in the selection process to reach a consensus is a challenge when there are more applicants than seats available.

Curriculum of Sir Padampat Singhania University

Courses at School of Management have been designed in a way which meets demands of the industry. BBA Programme is unique which is based on choice-based credit system of the UGC. In addition to it, students study their own field of specialization in V and VI semesters. After IV semester, students are attached to an industry for 6 weeks to gain practical experience. These unique features are not included by any other University in this part of the country. For MBA, School of Management is an important place to study because there are regular case studies, brainstorming sessions, distinguished guest lecture series. In addition, students are attached to an industry for 8 weeks in departments of their specialization. Above all, the Ph.D. programme has been strengthened as per the functional areas of management with coursework teaching and examination, every semester progress report submission followed by pre-thesis submission, presentation, and evaluation.

It is heartening to me that MBA students at School of Management had 100% placements in the year 2018. Hence a high growth of students at SPSU is inevitable. We are striving hard to train our students in such a way that they achieve 100% employability turning into 100% placements.

Various changes noticed by Dr. Sushil in the education sector over the past few years and the skillsets that corporates look in a student

AICTE permitted educational institutions to offer management courses also, with original approval only for engineering. This resulted in the mushroom growth of technical institution leading to disequilibrium in demand and supply. Since our emphasis is on sharpening skills for the corporate sector, our students are highly placed in industry.

Since I live on campus, I am available 24/7. In our university, every child can meet any person of the higher management without an appointment. We maintain a very robust mentorship programme and continuous outreach with our students.

Common sense is essential for all students to take a timely decision in different business situations. Whatever they learn has to be applied to complicated situations with common sense.

At School of Management, SPSU, we encourage our students of BBA and MBA to be innovative and hardworking to achieve our ultimate goal of skill enhancement. School of Management facilitates participation in Global Exchange Programmes which we are expanding in more countries to give global exposure to students of BBA and MBA.
