I believe that each industry in a way complements the other

I believe that each industry in a way complements the other, and this is more so when it comes to the academic and industrial worlds. The academic institutions like us provide the best of groomed talent to the industry which actually guides us in designing the course contents. On my own part, being a University topper and Gold Medalist for all three years of MCA degree, I got the opportunity to work for the State Govt.’s Secretariat as well as one of the then only four licensed Certifying Authorities in India under Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India. For me, coming to academics from the industry was like completing the cycle. I enjoyed a lot while working in the industry, and teaching, being my passion, love to share the knowledge with the students and mentor them for their academic and research projects. If one has the hunger for learning, each day has something to teach and each moment a unique learning experience in life, and this goes irrespective of which domain one works in.

I believe that a good and quality research work is a blend of novel ideas and well executed methodology

Honestly, it is the passion for research and a never-ending craving for better, which keeps me going. Though I never intended to do it specifically for the many awards received by me, they keep on pouring in with appreciations. I believe that a good and quality research work is a blend of novel ideas and approaches, precise calculations, and a well-designed and well-executed methodology, all presented in a comprehensible and high-readability manuscript. I firmly believe that research has the ability to revolutionize our lives and is limited only by our imagination, exploration and visualization. The fictions of past are facts of the present and the fictions of today morning could be realities by evening, given the pace of technological advancements. It is this potential of research that fuels my passion.

I go with the actual ground level realities and execute constrained optimization

As you would agree, the working environments are dynamic, uncertain, complex and pose multifaceted challenges in the decision making process. I define myself as someone who goes with the actual ground level realities and executes constrained optimization. I believe in team-work, participation of all and most importantly leading by example. I am proactive and a proponent of change for the best outcomes. It is difficult to name a particular leadership style to describe my traits. In administration, each day is unique and demands something new. I believe that the style followed by me is an amalgam of goods of different schools of thoughts. For me, learning never stops, experience improves wisdom and agility helps.

SICSR has always been a forerunner and trend setter in the design of its curriculum

SICSR has always been a forerunner and trend setter in the design of its curriculum. Be it in open source technologies or the latest trends, SICSR has actually carved a niche for itself. Given the locational benefit of the institute, being in the heart of the Pune city which itself is the IT capital of India, we draw upon the experts from the industries. The course structure for all programmes at SICSR is industry linked, highly competitive and undergoes a regular and rigorous revision process. SICSR is one of the oldest institutions in India offering IT and Techno-Management education. We have seen the IT industry grow and have grown with it as well. The maturity gained in this journey has been well invested in our curriculum design. Thus, in order to ensure that there is no gap between the industry requirements, institute academics, and the expectations of students, the course revision process involves alumni of the institute, industrialists as well as invited academic experts. Over and above all this, SICSR provides its students free-of-cost Value Added Courses with certificates, to further add to their skills or hone the existing ones.

Healthy interactions are encouraged and I foster participative management

The key to establishing a healthy relationship is to create a fair and transparent system being followed positively. Healthy interactions are encouraged and I foster participative management with discussions, including regular meetings, among all. We believe in ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and live like a family going by the very motto of ‘Symbiosis’.

Life is neither a success each day nor is it a failure each moment

I would like the current youth to remember that life is neither a success each day nor is it a failure each moment. A combination of dedication to work, resilience in life, and respect of ethics, is all what is needed. At SICSR, we work with this spirit and groom the leaders of the future with focus on all round development. The various clubs like Music, Dance, Photography, Art, Drama, etc., all managed by students themselves and mentored by faculties, provide them the platform for the exhibition of their talent and skills. We welcome the students who would like to be technically sound, emotionally strong and look forward to leading the world with their techno-managerial skills. Our alumni are working with various top-notch companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, Intel, Red Hat, Cognizant, Persistent, Deloitte, HSBC, Infosys, KMPG, Capgemini and HDFC. I invite the aspiring students to be proud participants of this rich legacy and cherishable journey.

There is a surge in the demand of industry ready students and we focus on delivering the same

There is a dire need of industry-ready students that is growing rapidly. We are, therefore, very focused in this area and provide the students with the best possible support. Apart from our industry-designed and industry-aligned curriculum, for this specific purpose we have a team comprising of alumni, representatives of incumbent students, and industrialists, all coordinated by the ‘dedicated’ staff at the institute. We have sessions by alumni and other experts from industry to explain to students the industry trends, demands and expectations. These sessions cover a gamut of exercises including those for technical aspects, team-building, mock interviews, creation of Video CVs, as well as specially designed modules on soft skills. I want to emphasize that all of these activities are part of our regular practices and not sporadic. Also, the students are taken for industrial and educational visits, both in and outside India. With very active, award-winning, and faculty mentored student chapters of professional bodies like IEEE, ISACA, and ACM, not only do we stay well connected with industry but also provide students with a platform to groom their leadership, technical and soft skills in the real world. Various guest lectures, workshops, competitions, and hackathons acquaint students with additional happenings of the industry as well as maintain their competitive edge. During the recent lockdown period of about two months, we provided students with opportunities for various professional online certifications in areas most needed by the industry. I am very happy to share that our students had successfully earned nearly 500 of such professional certifications in this period.

I believe that research, learning and teaching go hand in hand

Research takes a learner to the next level of knowledge where one just does not stop after reading and understanding what already exists! It helps the learner to stay updated with the state of the art of technology, to contribute back to the scientific community, and in turn, pave way for better learning. With ‘synthesis’ of novel techniques and evaluation of what has already been done, it is also the highest cognitive level according to Bloom’s taxonomy. This is true for both the types of learners, the students and the teachers! Though it would be partial to name only one, but definitely, it should be one of the top priorities for us over the next 5 years. Moreover, this is also one of the steps to make the students industry- ready. Additionally, students should be taught ‘to learn to learn’ rather than making them learn from the conventional perspective.

We are focused on developing holistic personality of the students

Foremost thing for me is to provide all the students with a completely smooth and flawless learning experience at the institute, in terms of academic as well as administrative processes. Our classrooms are full of young and talented minds coming from different geographical locations which are spread throughout the nation as well as various other parts of the globe. Additionally, with the COVID-19 we are refining, if not redesigning, the existing pedagogy as well as andragogy for our students. Though flipped classrooms or its more generalized form of blended learning is not new for us, with the ‘new normal’, we are evolving the e-learning models. I am also planning for providing the students with flexibility and more options of courses to choose from, depending on their academic interests.
