Mr Santosh Swarnakar is the current Dean of AAFT University of Media & Arts. He holds extensive experience in the field of cinema. As a cinematographer he has worked in ‘Taptapadi’ Marathi Feature Film for which he was nominated for Best Cinematography award at the Maharashtra Times Film Awards, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ a TV series with Aamir Khan, ‘Twisted’ a New Web Series for White Paper communication, Hindi Feature Film 'ADA A Way of Life' an A.R. Rahman Musical and many more. His key skills of Composition, Framing, Camera Operation makes him a mine full of talent. He holds a Diploma in Camera & Lighting Techniques from Asian Academy of Film & Television, Noida (AAFT), 3 Years Post Graduate Diploma in Motion Picture Photography from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata.

My experience in the education industry formally is not that long. Since I was a working professional in the field of Cinema in Mumbai for quite a long time, I count it as my teaching period. Every time you set a camera or light, you explain to the crew about why and what your approach is. The opportunity to educate, guide, and share the knowledge of my field with the aspiring and upcoming youth makes it the best industry to work in.

I had to make myself aware and updated in order to explore different verticals 

Some of the challenges which I faced during the initial phase when the university started and still persist are, the university has many schools, I had to make myself aware and updated in almost all the offered courses. Secondly, all the faculties were new and a majority of them had come from other states. So, I had to make them acquainted with the AAFT’s motto of quality education and make them understand that it’s teamwork that we need to work towards a common goal.

My relationship with the students is based on ‘The Kite Therapy’, which I have developed on my own. It implies the method of loosening and tightening the thread whenever required. I make sure to listen to their concerns and demands and pass them to the management if required. Also, I take two to three classes daily in my subject.
