Calicut University PG Entrance Exam 2020 Charged with Violation of Exam Rules


The entrance exam scheduled by the Calicut University for admissions to M.Phil and PhD course now has been charged for violating rules. 

Calicut University, a democratic front member Rasheed Ahammed has raised allegations against the university for being hovering the responsibility to conduct entrance exam for admission to different study departments. 

Calicut University is holding admission to postgraduate courses for 2020-21 session in pure science and humanities-based on their marks. There are more than 38,000 students who registered for the entrance examination of the university. 

The university will be conducting entrance tests for students seeking admission to journalism courses. Rasheed Ahammed P wrote a letter to the Vice-chancellor MK Jayaraj that read," I would like to bring to your notice that the system of entrusting the teachers from the university itself with the preparation of question papers is against examination rules".

The letter further read," We have to entrust the work with external question paper setters as in the case of university examinations. Otherwise, it would put the university entrance examination system under the shadow of suspicion".

On 29, September 2020, P. Rasheed Ahmed, claimed that the plan to entrust teachers of the university with exam question paper preparation is against the exam rules. 

He stated that the question paper for the PG entrance exam should be given to external question paper setters. Not doing so will put the examination system of the university in suspicion.

The Vice-Chancellor Mr Ahmed stated that it is mandatory for the teachers to assign a false number on answer scripts before the evaluation of the examination. It is a basic right of every candidate that examination rules will be maintained during the conducting of the examination.

He added violation of examination rules will harm the credibility of the examination system of the university. These actions could lead to nepotism regarding allocating marks to students. Mr Ahmed requested the university to create clear guidelines for conducting entrance examinations at the university. 

The question papers setting for the exams should only be entrusted with an external question paper setter. Valuation of the answer sheets needs to be done only after assigning dummy numbers.

He also requested the university to postpone the examinations. The admission should be based on the graduation marks of the students.
