City colleges are planning to go online for the admissions process due to the Covid-19 crisis.
The Higher Education Department also announced that admissions to 109 government arts and science colleges will be made online.
There are more than 92,000 seats in these colleges.
Loyola College is planning to convert the entire admission process online. "We used to call students for certificates and interviews.
As announced by Minister of Higher Education K P Anbalagan, applications for admission to 109 government arts and science colleges will be available at tngasa.in from July 20, 2020, 6 PM onwards.
This year, students will not be allowed to enter our campus and certificate verification and interviews will be held online, "said Chief Thomas Amirtham.
The college plans to use the Digi locker to verify the student's marks. Interviews are likely to take place on apps such as Google Meet.
The College is launching two business courses, B.Com Accounting and Finance, B.Com Computer Applications.
These courses are based on emerging areas such as fintech, blockchain and data analytics.
"These are two new courses which will cover recent developments in fintech technology. It will open up global opportunities for students, "he added.
Madras Christian College also plans to move its admission process online.
“We have opened the online portal for applications. After uploading, the applications will be ranked and sent to the concerned departments automatically,” said Principal P Wilson.
The college is also thinking of moving the enrolling process online.
So far, students appear in person for interviews at Ethiraj College for Women.
“This year we don’t know how to conduct personal interviews. There is a possibility we may conduct the interviews online,” said Principal S Kothai.
The College also introduced two new MSc Psychology and MA programs in Human Resources Management.
DG Vaishnav College is also planning to conduct video-conference interviews.
New portals for polytechnic colleges have also been launched by the state.
