The course will start from September onwards. It will be available at the Civil Defence Staff College Mumbai. The course will focus on practical training of civilians and take them through the operations of emergency response teams such as the fire brigade, meteorological department, bomb defusal squads, and so on.

As part of the course, students will also visit emergency-prone areas to gain practical knowledge about disaster management. Rather than dwell on theory-learning, the course aims to provide heuristic training.

Students will also be provided with placement opportunities after they complete the course. According to an official of the Civil Defence Force, this will be the first course to provide on-site training to students in Maharashtra. Most of the courses in disaster management colleges in India are available through online mode.

Established in 1962, the Civil Defence Directorate has four sections: Fire Services, Communication, Civil Defence and Home Guards. The Civil Defence Directorate was established by the MHA as a body that would respond to national and international emergencies and provide relief during calamities. The organization is now known as the Directorate General, Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards.
