Cotton University to Promote Students on the basis of UGC Formula amid Pandemic

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cotton University has made the decision to promote students of selected semesters in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, who were about to take the semester-end examination in June-July. This decision comes after a directive from the University Grants Commission.

According to the decision made, the examinations for the second and fourth semester of the undergraduate, BCA and MCA courses and the examination of the second semester at the postgraduate level of Cotton University will not be conducted. Instead, students will be promoted to the next semester based on a formula devised by the UGC.

According to the formula, 50% weightage will be given to the mid-semester examination and 50% weightage to the examinations from the previous semesters. The online classes of the new semesters will commence from 3 August. However, undergraduate and postgraduate students in their final semesters, whose examinations are supposed to be given at the same time, must take the tests.

Due to the pandemic, an emergency council meeting of Cotton University was held online on 8 July, where it was decided that the university would adopt the revised guidelines of the UGC date.

However, the decision of the UGC to hold the final-year examinations by 30 September has created confusion. The state government also has not given any clear instructions on holding examinations in the middle of the pandemic.
