WBJEE 2021 Exam Pattern

West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations conducted every year by West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board is taken by 10+2 level students for admission to engineering graduation courses. Students who have studied pure science in their 12th board exam (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) can take this examination.

The WBJEE syllabus includes topics from class 12 board exams in West Bengal. It has not undergone any changes over the years. The pattern however was changed in 2012 from short answers to fully MCQ based problems without changing the weightage of marks. About 200,000 - 300,000 students sit for WBJEE every year.

  • WBJEE 2021 is a 4 hour (2 hours + 2 hours) long examination divided into 2 sessions - paper 1 and paper 2.
  • WBJEE is conducted in offline mode. It is a pen and paper based examination.
  • Mathematics (paper 1) from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and Physics + Chemistry (paper 2) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
  • WBJEE is of 200 marks in total; 100 marks for each paper.
  • Mathematics (paper 1) is of 100 marks and Physics + Chemistry (paper 2) is also of 100 marks (50 + 50).
  • WBJEE paper will consist of questions from 3 different categories for each subject.
  • Questions from category 1 are of one mark each, questions from category 2 and category 3 are of 2 marks each.
  • While there is negative marking in category 3 of the exam, incorrect responses in the first and second categories will result in deduction of ¼ and ½ marks respectively.
  • There will be 75 questions from Mathematics and 40 questions from each Physics and Chemistry.

WBJEE Previous Year Paper Analysis

WBJEE Previous Year Paper Analysis (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017)

A detailed analysis of the difficulty level of previous years will help students get a rough understanding of the overall difficulty level of the paper and prepare them better.

Year  Physics  Chemistry  Mathematics
2020  Difficult, similar to that of JEE Main Overall easy questions from Inorganic and Physical Chemistry Overall difficult with the exception of a few concept based questions
2019 Section A & B were easy and scoring & C was a bonus section. No conceptual/application based questions came. No numericals but the paper was moderately difficult.  Section A was moderately easy, Section B was tough and lengthy
2018 Difficult compared to Chemistry & Mathematics. 25-30 is good attempt  Easy, 25-30 is good attempt Low difficulty but lengthy. 45-50 should be a good attempt.
2017 Blend of easy and difficult questions. Many were application/concept based. Mostly concept based but few were twisted & tricky.  Simple questions that needed a lot of practice.
