The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) which is scheduled to be held between the second and third week of April, 2021 is an entrance exam conducted by VIT University. This test, which attracts over 2 lakh candidates each year is for selection of students into the various B.Tech programs offered by VIT, a highly prestigious private engineering college in India. It will be held in multiple slots depending on the number of applicants.

VITEEE tests a candidate’s knowledge in fields of science such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/ Biology as well their command over the English language and General Aptitude. The aptitude section has been added only recently. Qualified candidates will get admission to either one of the four VIT campuses; Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amravati. There are a total of 5000 seats in these 4 campuses combined. Candidates can apply for admission for online and offline.

• Candidates who have secured 60% marks in their 10+2 level from a recognized board in science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology are eligible to sit for VITEEE. 10% relaxation is given to candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, SC/ST category, and North Eastern states.

• VITEEE is an online exam (Computer Based Test) Candidates will get 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete this paper.

• The paper consists of 125 questions in total. All are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type questions. Each question carries only one mark.

• All questions in this paper are compulsory. Each question will have only one correct answer which candidates are to choose from 4 options. No negative marking will be awarded for choosing an incorrect option.

• Candidates can sit for either the PCBE or PCME paper. There will be 35 questions each from Physics and Chemistry, 40 from Mathematics/ Biology, 5 from English and 10 from the Aptitude section.

• There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can sit for VITEEE. However, the minimum qualifying age is set by the conducting board.

VITEEE 2021 Syllabus

Students are advised to understand the syllabus for each subject to get an idea of the exam and prepare accordingly. The topics covered for PCBE and PCME papers are similar except the Mathematics/Biology section. The syllabus covered by VITEEE is that of NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) 11th and 12th standard. Apart from the Aptitude section being introduced recently, the syllabus has not changed much over the years. The level of difficulty of VITEEE is comparatively easier than other Indian competitive exams of the same level such as BITSAT or JEE Mains.

VITEEE 2021 Exam Pattern

Till the year 2020, the VITEEE paper had only 4 sections. But after the introduction of a new topic, Aptitude, students have to answer questions on this extra topic as well. No time limit is assigned for each of the 5 sections. This examination became CBT in 2013. The paper will be set in English only.

• The VITEEE paper is out of 125 marks and consists of 125 questions in total, all of which are out of one mark. Students have 2 and a half hours to complete the paper. All questions are compulsory.

• The paper is divided into 5 parts. Part 1 is Mathematics/Biology, Part 2 is Physics, Part 3 is Chemistry, Part 4 is English, and Part 5 is Aptitude. Students can opt for either Mathematics or Biology depending on their program preference.

• The VITEEE paper is fully Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) based. However, candidates will not be penalized with negative marking if they fail to choose the correct option.

• Candidates who have opted for MPCEA (Mathematics/Physics/Chemistry/English/ Aptitude) will be eligible for all engineering programs if qualified.

• Candidates who have opted for BPCEA (Biology/Physics/Chemistry/English/Aptitude) will be eligible for the B. Tech programs that are only offered in Vellore and Bhopal.

Preparation Tips for VITEEE 2021

Preparing for any competitive exam takes time, dedication, and the right strategies. Apart from studying the recommended books for each subjects or taking tuition coaching classes, here are some of the ways students can approach their preparation to succeed for each of the sections in VITEEE:

1. Practice make perfect

The importance of practice cannot be underestimated or stressed enough. If you want to be fully prepared for the day of your exam then start solving mock test papers as if you are in the exam hall taking the test. Solve them at least 2 -3 times a week and try to complete the paper within the allotted time; 2.5 hours.

Understand the exam

Before you start preparing for VITEEE, the syllabus for each section must be understood properly. The exam pattern is also important to give you a grip of what to expect. Go through the question papers of the last few years for the best analysis.

Work on your speed

In order to be successful in any competitive exams, one must prepare themselves in a way that enables them to solve maximum problems in the least possible time. Important Instructions During the Exams

Candidates are advised to keep the following instructions and rules in mind while giving the exam:

• Your details such as name and photo will be displayed. Examinees will be given 10 minutes before the commencement to enter your username. Click on the sign in button after entering your password to log into your system.

• After reading the instructions, click on the “I am ready to begin” button which will start the timer.

• Candidates can go to any question they want by clicking on the question numbers displayed at the right hand side of the screen.

• Candidates have to choose one correct answer from the four given choices. If a wrong answer is chosen by mistake, clking on the “clear response” button will cancel the selected option.

• In order to save your answer, click on the “save and next” button and continue with the next question. You can mark a question by clicking on the “mark and review” button if you are not sure of the answer.

• You can submit your paper only after the time is over. If you are unable to complete the paper, it will be automatically submitted after the time is over. After submitting your paper, a list containing the number of questions answered, not visited and marked for review.
