VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) is a computer based examination which is conducted nationwide by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). The institute itself is responsible to release the final cut off to decide the final list of qualifying candidates.
Candidates who are planning to appear for the exam have to attempt the paper of 125 questions. Each question will be of one mark and no negative marking will be there for wrong answers. Check VITEEE Exam Pattern
Since the exam is conducted in multiple shifts on a different day the authorities use a statistical process of Equi-percentile to identify the percentile ranks for aspirants. Now the question is what is this Equi-percentile?
What is Equi-percentile Method?
VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) is conducted on different days with multiple slots.
-
The exam conducted on every slot is called a test form by the university.
-
There is a different set of paper which is set by the University for each Slots.
-
Now, to ensure the level of difficulty to be the same in all the slots, the University follows Equi-percentile.
Equi-percentile is a statistical process used to adjust scores on test forms so that scores on the forms can be used interchangeably.
-
Equating is done to facilitate meaningful and fair comparison for the merit list and ranking of candidates.
-
This method is used to identify the percentile ranks for the candidates with the same percentile ranks.
Taking an instance – If a percentile rank of a candidate is 70 then there are 70 candidates who scored below the candidates. Also, there are only 30 candidates who scored more than the candidate. Therefore, all the candidates appearing for VITEEE examination will get a rank separately so there is no need for a cut off.
