Maryland Smith Maintains Waiving of GMAT/GRE Criterion

Following the path of the majority of other universities and schools, Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business carries on with its waiving of GRE and GMAT exams to alleviate the students during the pandemic and have proper MBA or part-time MBA admissions.

This is not new for Maryland’s smith Business school, previously too, during the beginning of the pandemic it announced the waive of the standardized tests, and it has further extended it to the 2021 - 22 admissions of the management programs.

Pasquale Quintero, senior director of full-time MBA and business master's programs at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business has stated that “The GMAT or GRE is an important assessment, but we review candidates holistically,” he has further added, “We will take into consideration academic history, work experience, industry certifications, and other factors that will strengthen one's application.”

Shelbi Brookshire, the Senior Director of MBA Working Professionals Recruiting has stated how the graduate business program enhances the candidate’s skills and guides in uplifting them in either their transition or career graph. She continues with how Maryland’s Smith Business School is instrumental in building the student’s competence which helps them modify data into insight, which eventually leads to them developing in a fast-paced business environment.

With regard to the COVID-19 outbreak and the anxiety caused by it, Quintero mentions how they are assisting the candidates during the pandemic and how the Smith Business School is a choice for many students out there, and also that they are grateful to welcome more students in their business school.

Coming to the eligibility requirements for passing the GMAT/GRE waiver, the potential MBA candidates need to abide by the following factors:

  1. Candidates should possess industry certifications like CPA, PHR, CFA, PMP, CAP, PE, or the Six Sigma along with a minimal GPA of 3.0 or greater out of 4.0;
  2. Other exams accepted are LSAT or MCAT with overall score percentiles of 70th or higher;
  3. Achieved a graduate or final degree in the business or STEM related streams with a GPA of 3.0 or greater on a scale of 4.0;
  4. Achieved an undergraduate degree which is equivalent to a US bachelor’s degree from a renowned university or college with:
    1. GPA of 3.2 or greater on a scale of 4.0, or have earned a first class degree or first class with distinction;
    2. 3 years work experience;
    3. Finished undergraduate coursework with concentration on statistics or quantitative courses with a grade B or greater;
    4. Sponsorship by employer. Candidates receiving sponsorship from employers for pursuing full-time or part-tie MBA programs can avail the waiver.
    5. Candidates involved in active military or vetrans possessing G.I. bill may be fit for the waiver.
