Gauhati University initiated unique Evaluation Procedure; Follows Blended Offline and Online Exam for students


Gauhati University (GU) Vice-Chancellor, Pratap Jyoti Handique on Monday, issued an official notification that stated the university plans to conduct exams from September. The exams are likely to be held in an offline and online mode, in line with the guidelines recently issued by UGC.

The VC of Gauhati University also requested students to fill exam forms beforehand, so that the university can ensure the strength of following semesters and those obtaining degrees. He said that GU will implement a mixed procedure of examination and may give only a marginal weight to the online mode.

He added that a detailed procedure and calendar of examinations will be published immediately on completion of the ongoing lockdown in Guwahati. A detailed work plan and optimization of the examination procedure for the students of GU is underway. 

He also said that an exclusive and student-friendly procedure is to be implemented at GU so that maximum benefit can be assured to students.

Recently, UGC has also provided guidelines that ask universities to conduct semester or final year exams by September following a blended (offline/online) approach. 

As the GU VC gave a nod to it, the Postgraduate Students’ Union (PGSU) of the university had written to the UGC.

Handique also clarified, “I wish to convey that there will be some form of examinations for all levels but with an exclusive and student-friendly procedure. I request them to continue to study at their own convenience. 

GU is prepared to restart all pending activities, including examination and admission, and start a new session as soon as the higher educational institutions in the country reopen.
