GTU Postpones PhD Entrance Exams Indefinitely; Check Details Here

Gujarat Technological University announced the postponement of the entrance exam for PhD applicants. The exam was originally supposed to be held on November 22 but was delayed once again.

This is not the first time that the exam has been delayed. It has previously been postponed 4 times and this marks the fifth time it was held up. Before being rescheduled to November 22, it was supposed to be conducted in September. The constant delays are now proving to be quite a headache for GTU students.

As of yet, no new date has been announced by the GTU. A spokesperson from the university said in a statement that the new date for the exam will be released at an appropriate time on the website of the University.

The entrance exam is conducted every year by following the University Grants Commission guidelines for admissions to PhD programmes. Recently the PhD exam for Gujarat University students was conducted for admissions to various PhD disciplines.

Due to the constant delays, more than 800 students who had applied for the entrance exam are stuck in limbo. The entrance exam is conducted for engineering, pharmacy and MBA programmes and around 1100 seats are available for the candidates.

Despite the number of seats, only 800 applicants had registered for the exam which practically meant that everyone was already guaranteed a seat in the University. Despite this, the real number of applicants is bound to get lower due to the indecisive nature of the University administration regarding the test.

On the other hand, the University has not had an easy time conducting the exams of its regular students. The university offered the final year students the option to either select the option to take their exams in offline or online mode. Those who could not select any option would automatically be put in the offline option.

Even as the online exams were conducted, many students complained of problems regarding them. There were complaints about the failure of the system server in responding and the students not being able to log in.

The experience during the online exams has raised a lot of concerns over the ability of the University to hold exams in the online mode.
