Gujarat University: GUSEC Receives INR 10 Cr from Indian Govt to augment startup ecosystem


Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council (GUSEC) has been sanctioned a lump sum INR 10 crore by The National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB).

The NSTEDB is an autonomous board under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (GOI). This grant has been sanctioned to GUSEC as a part of NIDHI Seed Support System (SSS) scheme which will enable it to invest the funds in startups under its ambit.

Gujarat University has been recognized as the Nodal Institute for fundings startups in Gujarat under the Startup Assistance Scheme of Industries Commissionerate, Government of Gujarat.

With the help of this latest support from NSTEDB, GUSEC will be able to invest directly in startups under its ambit. This is a very important and remarkable development for the startup ecosystem of Gujarat.

GUSEC was set up as a technology business incubator in October 2018, as a part of National Initiative for Developing and Harnessing Innovations (NIDHI). GUSEC was initially funded by the University and then backed up by NIDHI along with other state government and non government grants.

Since GUSEC was set up, it has supported 234 startups. These startups have created upto 666 new jobs and have generated revenue of over INR 14 Crore. 175,000 students were educated about startups by GUSEC. Over 100 startups and innovations were currently incubated at GUSEC.

Prof Himanshu Pandya, Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University stated “Over the last four years since we started working towards promoting and nurturing entrepreneurship and innovation, we have believed that access to capital is one of the biggest challenges for startups in Gujarat.”
