IIIT Hyderabad has brought in a number of incentives to increase gender diversity. It is aiming for at least 25% female representation in its B.Tech course admission through JEE in 2020-21.
A number of measures are being taken to this end. IIIT Hyderabad has waived off 25% of tuition fees for all female students admitted through JEE for all four years of the B.Tech course. Merit scholarships will be given at the beginning of the second year of the course. A voluntary application fee of 500 INR will be charged for women applying through the JEE mode.
Speaking on these incentives, Professor Jayanthi Sivaswamy, the Dean of Academics at IIITH, said,” Our education provides students access to incredible opportunities- be it jobs, admission in reputed universities for higher studies, or grounding to become an entrepreneur. Through our Diversity Pool, we hope to empower more women students to join us and create their own career paths.”
