IIM Calcutta MBAEx: Gender Diversity meets New Heights, On-Campus Classes from September


IIM Calcutta is planning to begin the on-campus classes for its 1-year residential program of MBAEx (earlier known as PGPEx). The batch of 62 students with better gender mix will soon arrive at the campus as the classes are scheduled to begin from September. 

MBAEx is a year-long residential program offered by Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta. This is the 14th batch of MBAEx since IIM Calcutta started offering the course in 2006. 

The institute has made this decision soon after the Central Government released advisories for reopening higher education institutions. 

To attend on-campus classes, students will begin to arrive in small batches to the campus. After which, students will be quarantined in their campus hostels. Meanwhile, they will also attend their classes online.

IIM Calcutta MBAEx: Class of 2021 Batch Profile

As per data, the new batch of MBAEx with a batch strength of 62 have students has working experience in diverse backgrounds. The batch started its MBA journey at IIM Calcutta from April 2020. It has been more than 4 months since they got a nod to step onto the IIMC grounds. 

The batch of 2021 shows diversity in work experience along with a better gender mix compared to the graduating batch of 2020. Last year, the strength of women candidates was 11% of the entire batch strength which has significantly increased to 20% this year.

As data is concerned, top IIMs (IIM A, B and C) have been recorded with the lowest gender diversity showcasing a widened gap between male and female candidates. 

To be least expected, but IIM Calcutta has been historically projecting itself as the least academically diverse institute, despite the fact that a lot of information about the institute is unavailable for the present batch. 

The present batch however, has an average work experience of 8.43 years representing 20 industries, 53 organizations and indefinite functional areas. 2020-21 batch has a median GMAT score of 690 while the maximum score is 770.

On-Campus Measures in Face of COVID

On this occasion, Prof Anju Seth, Director of IIM Calcutta, said, “Following regulatory guidelines, our faculty, officers and staff are delighted to welcome and support our MBAEx students finally arriving on campus.

Thus enabling their continued progress towards the world-class educational experience with significant peer-to-peer learning components. Our students are the reason for our existence, and we look forward to their continued success.”

Alongside, IIM Calcutta has made elaborate arrangements starting from a different entry process including accurate safety protocols that involve mandatory testing and quarantine measures.

Along with this, are the campus guidelines for the safety of students and also for all campus residents.

In this while, IIM Calcutta has been constantly conducting online classes for its students since the lockdown was called out as it cannot forgo education at any cost. 

Having a potent technological infrastructure and strong fold digital presence, the institute arranged for every minute detail to create a classroom environment applying ‘beyond-the-blackboard’ methods for students even in virtual classes.

The students have been proceeding with course work in virtual mode, that has been designed for experiential and interactive work.
