IIM Trichy Inaugurates a new Power-Plant to reduce two-thirds of its Power Consumption


IIM Trichy has inaugurated a new solar power plant virtually on Thursday. Chief Guest Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Managing Director, REC Ltd, New Delhi; Guest of Honour Ajoy Choudhury, Director - Finance, REC Ltd; Srinivas Shroff Nagesha Rao, CEO, REC Foundation; and Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director of IIM Trichy were present at the inauguration program.

The Solar power plant is expected to bring down two-third of the power consumption of IIM Trichy This project has been sponsored by the Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC Ltd) as part of their CSR initiative to IIM Trichy. 

REC has sponsored a sum of INR 4.20 crore for this project with which the solar plant with panels that spreads around the artificial lake inside the campus was built.

The  MW Solar Power Plant was inaugurated by the chief guest Sanjeev Kumar Gupta. He shared the journey of REC Ltd so far and expressed his joy in being associated with IIM Trichy in his address speech. 

The Director of IIM Trichy, Dr. Bhimaraya Metri mentioned that Trichy is the first among 20 IIMs to have received such funding from REC Ltd and spoke about his vision for an entirely green IIMT campus

In the Inauguration program, the officials mentioned that the power plant was running under trial for the last one month. A senior official said that when the power consumption drops during the vacation, they are planning to give the excess power to Tangedco. 

The officials also said that they are planning to allow Ph.D. students from various institutions to research on this area since the control system of this project and its functions are potential.
