IIT Guwahati 22nd Convocation: PM Modi Addresses B.Tech, M.Tech Students


Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi will address the convocation of IIT Guwahati through a live video conference on 22 September 2020. To celebrate the graduation of accomplishments, IIT Guwahati will conduct an online award distribution event for the students. 

During the IIT Guwahati 22nd Convocation, 1,803 students including 687 B.Tech and 637 M.Tech students will receive their degrees. 

Chief Minister of Assam Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, the Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, and Union Minister of State of Education Sanjay Dhotre will also participate in the live event.

IIT Guwahati provides a residential campus to 400+ faculty members and more than 6 thousand students. The institute has received various ranks in different categories and has been able to fulfil the aspirations of the students of the north-east region. 

As per the Nature Index of the year 2020, IIT Guwahati has ranked 6th in India overall Rank and achieved 350th position under the title "World Overall Rank" category.

IIT Guwahati 22nd Convocation: Highlights

At 11:00 am the live streaming of IIT Guwahati 22nd convocation begins. During the live event, IIT Guwahati director Professor TG Sitharam presents the annual report of the institute.

He stated that IIT Guwahati has achieved his rank amongst the top 7 universities of the country in 2020. The university is among 470 QS rankings this year. According to the NIRF rankings 2020, the university has ranked 7th in engineering in the university category. 

Later on the live event, Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal congratulates students and wishes them best for their future.

At the live event, PM Modi addresses some of the important aspects of education at the time of the Coronavirus pandemic. 

Narender Modi started during the event "Convocation is a special day for every student. But this year, it is a different experience for them in the time of the pandemic. The pandemic has changed the way convocation is conducted. But, still, it is as special as it was before. I congratulate students for their bright future.”

"I have full faith that interdisciplinary programs will make education more futuristic," the PM said.
