IIT Kharagpur to Host Webinar on Education in Post-NEP India, Registration Open; Get Direct Link Here


An International Webinar entitled 'India: The Global Destination for Higher Education (Post NEP 2020 Scenario)' will be organised by the IIT Kharagpur Alumni Foundation (India) in partnership with IIT Kharagpur on 09-10 Oct 2020.

The IIT Kharagpur webinar will provide a platform for the development of policy recommendations regarding the internationalisation of Indian higher education institutions, taking into account the New Education Policy 2020, which will reflect the discussions of renowned academic experts and administrators from India and abroad.

'Status of Government Institutions in Attracting Foreign Students',' Contribution of Private Sector Institutions in Attracting Foreign Students',' Global Alliances: Gaps and Bridging Them' and 'What makes India a preferred post-NEP 2020 higher education destination' will be part of the panel discussions. 

The webinar will be honoured by Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Honorable Minister of Education, as Chief Guest, while Shri Amit Khare, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, will be Guest of Honor.

IIT Kharagpur Director Prof Virendra Tewari is the Patron, IIT Bhubaneswar Commander VK Jaitly is the Chair of the Webinar, while Rajah Venkat is the International Webinar Convenor.

The special guest for the event will be the Chairman of AICTE, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe. The co-sponsors of this webinar are PanIIT India, PanIIT USA, and IIT Kharagpur Foundation of USA, while the key organisers are Varadarajan Seshamani, Ron Gupta, Krishen Dhar, and Sundy Srinivasan from these organisations.

These brainstorming sessions will be attended by the directors of IITs, IIMs, IIITs, NITs, and government and private university VCs.

Renowned academicians from top foreign universities like Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego Prof. Pradeep Khosla, Prof. Prabhat Hajela from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Prof. Geeta Mehta of Columbia University, Prof. Prith Banerjee, Former Dean of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Northwestern University will be sharing the gaps that need to be bridged for the Indian universities and colleges to attract foreign students from across the world.

The important aspects going to be discussed in the webinar are the new dynamics that would come to play in the higher education scenario after the pandemic including logistics of international travel, cost of international healthcare, stay, etc.

Cdr V K Jaitly is going to initiate the Webinar and as per him the annual outflow of foreign reserves to the extent of USD 16 billion as regards to foreign education cost of about 2.5 lakhs Indian students studying abroad. As per the foreign reserves outflow, the country further experiences a loss of intellectual property.

However, India has the potential to earn about USD 20 billion every year from the education sector.

This two-day webinar will analyze the current situation and make a way to grab the talents streaming out of India and receiving the students globally to Indian universities for pursuing higher education.
