IIT Madras Invites Applications for 400 Free NPTEL Courses

IIT Madras in association with the National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) has launched about 400 online courses to be availed free of cost.

Online courses will include a series of lectures by eminent department professors of IIT Madras on varied engineering streams. The courses are aimed at Class 12 students for choosing the right streams for higher education.

The enrolment process has begun from May 20, 2020, and is still continuing. Students can earn about 20 credit scores from the course which will be delivered free. A minimum fee will be charged for appearing in the exam, in case students wish to receive a certificate.

The courses are open to students aspiring to study in the IITs and working professionals alike. Interested candidates can register through the official website of NPTEL.

As per a written statement by IIT Madras, it aims to offer learning opportunities to students from home amid the nationwide lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. As a fact, learners can combine mainstream NPTEL courses with these new courses to add credits in transcripts.

About NPTEL

NPTEL is a joint initiative of IITs and IISc to offer NPTEL certified courses in the format of MOOCs. For this, students have to watch videos online, submit assignments on a weekly or sometimes monthly basis. They have to register to appear for exams.

The exams are proctored and students have to request for transferring credits on completing the course. This is a part of the regulations set for NPTEL courses. Coordinated from IIT Madras, NPTEL has more than 1 crore learners enrolled as of now.
