IIT Mandi Catalyst Proceeds with ‘Start-up Exploration Programme 2020’


IIT Mandi Catalyst is a Technology Business Incubator (TBI) based in Mandi which, among other things, fosters Research and Development and expedites cooperation and interaction between the institute of IIT Mandi and the industry.

IIT Mandi Catalyst launched its second batch of the Start-up Exploration Programme of 2020 on 21 August. This is the seventh batch of start-ups that Catalyst will host. With this batch, Catalyst will have supported more than 100 start-ups since its inception.

This programme will go on for three months. During this period, start-ups will be given funding support of 150,000 INR. The Catalyst team will also guide the start-ups by training them to brainstorm innovative ideas.

In the current batch of the Start-up Exploration Programme, 32 start-ups from different sectors, including waste management, agrotech, healthtech, biotech, edutech, tourism and hospitality, manufacturing, enterprise management and cleantech have been shortlisted. Twelve of the start-ups are from the Himalayan region.

Once the programme is completed, Catalyst will provide start-ups with funding options from many sources. The TBI is hosting six funding schemes that provide funding for every stage of a startup: idea validation, prototyping and commercialization.

The funding under the schemes ranges from 150,000 INR to 5 million INR and is sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology under the Government of India, the Department of Industries under the Government of Himachal Pradesh, and IIT Mandi.
