IIT Patna Offers Free Online Course on Big Data Computing through NPTEL


Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Patna has announced that it will offer a free online course on big data computing, through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project of SWAYAM, of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD). 

The course offered by IIT Patna is suitable for all undergraduate and postgraduate students and practising engineers or scientists from diverse fields and curious about learning about the novel leading edge techniques and applications of massive data computing, says the NPTEL website.

The course is going to be conducted by Dr Rajiv Misra, Professor at IIT Patna who is functioning within the Department of Computing and Engineering of the institute.

The professor has obtained his Ph.D. degree from IIT Kharagpur, MTech degree in computing and Engineering from IIT Bombay, and Bachelor of Engineering degree in computing from MNIT Allahabad.

The 8-week long course is aimed toward providing in-depth knowledge and understanding of the terminologies and therefore the core concepts behind big data problems, applications, systems, and therefore the techniques that underlie the present big data computing technologies.

The topics which can cover under the course are: an introduction to big data, enabling technologies of massive data, big data platforms, big data storage platforms for giant-scale data storage, big data streaming platforms for fast data, machine learning, graph processing, and so on.

Those who want to use for the course can do so on or before August 17, 2020. The course will start on August 17, 2020. If the student wishes to get a certificate then they need to undertake an examination which can be conducted on October 18, 2020, and that they need to pay a fee of Rs 1,000 to get the certificate.
