 Osmania University is planning to tie up with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to create a GPS using Indian field trial and data collection. The project has been approved in the year 2016 and the work has already been started.

Space Applications Center (SAC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will be working together with University College of Engineering  (UCE) and Osmania University for the production of Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) receiver field and data collection which will be used for the country's defence and domestic purposes.

The equipment is installed at the advanced GNSS research laboratory and is currently being evaluated under various conditions. The software will be used on the commercial market and will be installed in mobile phones, aviation sector, transportation, agricultural fields and many more.

The MoU signed in 2016 had expired and on the basis of the performance of the project, ISRO and SAC have extended three more years i.e. 2018-2021 to complete it. The official notice is still to be received from the parties.
