JEE Main 2021 First Phase Exams Expected in February, NTA to issue Notice in December


As per recent sources, the first phase of JEE Main 2021 is likely to be conducted in the month of February 2021, a deferral of one month from its regular date due to COVID-19. Meanwhile, NTA will issue an official notification in December 2020 on NTA’s JEE website: jeemain.nta.nic.in

JEE Main 2021 first phase application process is expected to begin in the month of December 2020. In 2021, the exam will be postponed by a month in view of the spiking COVID cases in the country.

The Joint Entrance Examination for engineering is generally conducted in two phases, in the months of January and April for the screening of candidates to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses and JEE Advanced exam.

A senior official said, “As the engineering admission is still underway, it is being considered that JEE-Main of 2021 is pushed to February. This will give a chance to students who were not satisfied with the choice of the branch or their score.” However, the authorities are yet to assess whether shifting it to February will affect other competitive exams.

JEE Main 2021: First Phase Examination Postponement Reasons

One of the reasons why the first phase of JEE Main 2021 is likely to be postponed is the late conduct of JEE Main Phase 2 exams for the academic year 2020, which were recently wrapped in the month of September.

A senior govt official has informed that due to the delay of the Phase 2 exams of JEE Main 2020, the admission process is still underway in many engineering colleges. As per the situation, the Ministry of Education is of the opinion that JEE Main 2021 1s phase is likely to be postponed to February 2021.

Moreover, in light of the rising COVID-19 cases, the National Testing Agency, the conducting body will require around two months time to prepare the JEE Main 2021 test centres in accordance with COVID-19 protocols and guidelines so that the exam is safely delivered.

Previously, in the month of October, the central government also decided to widen the reach of JEE Main 2021 by offering it more regional languages than the present English, Hindi and Gujarati in tune with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as announced in October, this year.

The official said that the decision on the number of languages for JEE Main 2021 also remains to be finalised and its preparation will also require time which further asserts in postponing to the month of February 2021.
