JEE Main 2021: NTA Introduces Assamese Language to Boost Vernacular Schools in the State

JEE Main 2021: National Test Agency decided to introduce the Assamese language, among other regional languages in JEE Main 2021. The move will boost vernacular medium schools in the state and slow down, growing English medium schools across Assam and other states.

Various school Heads and Academics stated that the introduction of Assamese language in JEE Mains 2021 will affirm the thrust on mother tongue during schooling in an era of high competition at the Higher Secondary Class level.

NTA step will be considered as the biggest development for Assam as far as competitive exams are concerned. Since most students from rural areas are not well-conversant with English fluency which affects their performance in competitive examinations.

A Principal and Academic of Ramanujan Junior College, Dilip Kumar Borah stated students from towns and suburban areas are fluent in the English language, however, rural school students are not.

Borah stated, “NTA’s move will do justice with vernacular medium students who prefer Assamese as the preferred mode of instruction since childhood.”

Borah further added that the introduction of Assamese language in national-level entrance exams, for instance, JEE Main will infuse confidence among Assamese medium students that they can excel in such entrance examinations.

Many rank-holders and JEE qualifiers have been produced under Dilip Kumar Borah’s co-educational institution.

Moreover. Chancellor of University of Science and Technology (USTM) Meghalaya, M Haque stated that the decision of NTA will help in the revival of Assamese medium schools on lines of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Haque further mentioned that introduction of Assamese language in JEE Mains 2021 will encourage students to study in their regional language. However, justice needs to be done with other vernacular languages where a significant amount of students are studying.

Since students from Barak Valley studies in Bengali medium, there shall be no discrimination and hence Bengali medium in JEE Mains shall also be introduced.

Unlike Brahmaputra valley, education is not imparted in the Assamese language at the government schools of Barak Valley. Every student must get a fair chance to excel in national level entrance examinations, Haque showed concern.
