JEE Main 2021 Ranking System (New), Merit List to be Based on Percentile Scores: Check Details Here

JEE Main 2021 merit list will include percentile scores of the candidates instead of raw marks as per the new four-cycle Computer-Based Test (CBT) for JEE Main 2021. 

Candidates need to qualify JEE Main 2021 to sit for JEE Advanced or secure admission in NITs, IIITs or GFTIs. 

National Testing Agency in 2019 introduced the new change related to the inclusion of percentile scores in JEE Main.

JEE Main 2021 Ranking System: What Changes have Been Made?

National Testing Agency (NTA) has also established a new marking and ranking scheme for JEE Main entrance exam for admission to engineering and architecture courses. 

Candidates can check the new procedure of the JEE Main 2021 ranking system as mentioned below;

• This year JEE Main 2021 will be held in multiple sessions, each session will have an independent NTA percentile score with the highest scorer or scorers equivalent to 100 percentile.
• The agency will give a master NTA score so that all the sessions of JEE Main 2021 exam will be put together to check a final ranking.
• The score of the top-ranked student according to the final ranking will be 100 percentile.
• The tie-breaker between the students who obtain a 100 percentile will be based on the highest percentile in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics in that specific order.
• If a tie is still not resolved even after the above step, the older person will be given priority in JEE Main 2021.
• A similar method will be opted by NTA to evaluate JEE Main Phase 2, 3 and 4 that are scheduled in March, April and May respectively.
• NTA will declare the final merit list once the JEE Main May 2021 (Phase 4) results are out.
• Candidates who have given multiple phases of JEE Main 2021 exam must note that the better percentile will be considered in the JEE Main 2021 final merit list.

Apart from this, the difficulty level of JEE Main 2021 question papers in multiple sessions may be different. 

Although the percentile score of the student in each session is on the basis of the relative performance of students in that specific session. Thus, the percentile scores for each session would be considered at par.
