New Delhi: KU has obtained the ‘District Green Champion Award’ 2021-22 for its outstanding work in making a difference to the campus and the neighbourhood.
Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir, has received a congratulatory communication in this regard, from the Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India that announced the award.

The significant parameters for this ranking included Water Management, Alternative Energy Sources (Solar Energy), Greenery Management, Waste Management and Land-Use Management including the Green Area inside the campus perimeter.
The award is also a national recognition for the outstanding exemplary Swachhta activities in the varsity and its green and clean campus area.
“The University had submitted information on the prescribed quantifiable parameters in November 2021 with valuable inputs from the concerned quarters, such as University Landscape Division, Engineering & Construction Division and Sanitation Wing, etc.”, as said by Professor Manzoor A Shah, the coordinator of this effort.
Professor Talat Ahmad and Registrar Nisar A Mir congratulated the university staff and the concerned team for this huge achievement.
The green and beautiful university campus on the banks of Dal Lake and surrounded by the Zabarwan mountains with the chinars in the Naseem Bagh is also a special attraction for people from all over the world.

KU, Srinagar is a state university, approved by NAAC and UGC. It is known to have attained Grade A+ in the assessment by NAAC. The varsity ranks in the 47th position in the all-India-ranking of universities by the Ministry of Education under the NIRF.
