Mumbai University Affiliated Colleges Plan to Continue Online Classes for Another Semester; Read Details Here

Mumbai University affiliated colleges are planning to continue the online classes for another semester since the Maharashtra government has announced the extension of lockdown till January 31, 2021.

The colleges under Mumbai University informed that even if the state asks to resume offline lectures, the varsity will continue with a blended approach for the academic year 2021.

The varsity also added that lectures are conducted completely online for now. Although for this academic year, there will be a blended approach in the forthcoming days, including both online and offline lectures in wake of the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic.

As per the media reports, the principal at one of Mumbai University affiliated colleges based in Malad stated, "We will have 30 to 40 per cent lectures online even if we resume offline classes. Both students and professors have got a hang of virtual education by now, so we will continue this blended approach for this academic year."

The Principal of a college at Charni Road informed Practicals, laboratory lectures and on-field assignments will be held offline on priority. "We are awaiting the guidelines from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the state Higher and Technical Education Department. We will give first priority to resume offline lectures for practicals, laboratory classes and fieldwork," the principal added.

Meanwhile, Mumbai University affiliated colleges will cut short summer vacations to 13 days in this academic session from June 1, 2021, to June 13, 2021. The authority took this decision to ensure delays in the current academic session do not affect next year.

A university official stated, “A lot of thought has gone into making the academic calendar to ensure that this year’s delay has minimal impact on our next academic session. The current session started on August 7 this year instead of June, so it was expected to get extended by a month.”

On the other hand, the state government has not given any information related to the reopening of offline lectures for degree colleges and universities, following the extension of the lockdown till January 31, 2021. Degree colleges have also developed in-house software to hold online semester examinations, record attendance and conduct interactive academic sessions via online tools.
