Mumbai University (MU) along with its affiliated colleges has started checking their system for errors, streamlining their software, and initiating measures to prevent cheating in the upcoming online winter semester exams.
Some colleges have finished the winter semester practical examinations and are now gearing up for theory examinations from December 21, 2020. According to the instructions given by MU, online theory exams of commerce, arts and science courses will be of 60 marks.

A total of 50 MCQs will be asked in the examination, out of which only 40 need to be solved. The MU winter semester examinations are scheduled to be finished by December 31, except those of 1st-year students.
Since this is the 2nd session of online exams, colleges said that they were working on minimizing the technical problems and making the process more student-teacher friendly. MU and its affiliated colleges had previously conducted final year exams in online mode.
The principal of Jai Hind College, Churchgate, Ashok Wadia said, "We are working on improving our software and online systems to conduct examinations in a streamlined manner. We want to simplify the process of appearing for online examinations for students and help teachers to conduct examinations smoothly."

Colleges said that they have learned from the previous online exams. A teacher from Andheri college, Kanika Desai said that the college faced many technical problems in the first online semester exam like low internet bandwidth, website crashes, and long duration to load question papers. However, the technical team of the college is trying to resolve the issue.
Hitesh Malwankar, a teacher from South Mumbai college said that preventing cheating was one of the major challenges. He said that due to the lack of physical invigilation, students often try to cheat.
However, the institute will set the paper in such a way that students will not be able to refer to any website and the time duration will be provided less to solve the MCQs to prevent them from cheating.
The deadline given by MU to complete the theory exams of architecture, engineering, MCA and pharmacy courses is January 15, 2021.
