Mumbai University fails to conduct RRC meeting for PhDs; Know Details Here

Mumbai University has failed to conduct the Research & Recognitions Committee (RRC) meetings for the PhD candidates who have submitted their thesis in February 2020.

One of the Ph.D faculty of MU has paid the fees, completed the courseware, submitted the synopsis in October 2019 and thesis in February 2020. However, he is yet to receive a scheduled date for the viva-voce.

Mumbai University has been unable to update the lists for research guides. There are numerous cases regarding the inability of the MU to organise crucial Research and Recognition Committee (RRC) meetings in months.

RRC takes up all important decisions for researchers from delivering the explanation of the research topic to keeping track of management reviews, forwarding the synopsis to a panel of experts and ultimately approving the thesis and scheduling the viva-voce before considering whether or not to confirm doctorate on an applicant.

RRC also examines updates regularly in the number of guides. Some applicants have even paid the fees, but RRC has not been scheduled to set up a faculty member who has been collaborating with the university officials for nearly 2 years.

This also led the Mumbai University College Teachers Association to write it to the governor to intervene in this matter.

There are several grievances about the behaviour of RRC and their criminal laws as the RRC meeting is not conducted regularly, researchers are losing interest because of the delay in the acceptance of the topic approval, issuing a letter conducting open defence etc. Several applicants have cleared PET and are still waiting until the allotment of guides to begin research work.
