Mumbai University Final-Year Exams: Principals Say Colleges cannot Share Question Bank with Students

Mumbai University students are dealing with a problem: two circulars have been released by the university in the last ten days which mention the requirement for a complete bank of MCQs for each cluster of colleges. However, they do not mention if the question bank needs to be shared with students, leaving many of them puzzled.

The president of the Maharashtra Students’ Union said that the State Minister for higher and technical education had previously assured students that a question bank would be compiled for each subject, which would be shared with students, as the Multiple-Choice Question format is new. However, the colleges are not sharing anything now. Instead, they are planning to hold mock tests, he said.

The principal of an eminent college said that though the university circular mentions that a comprehensive is required, it does not say that colleges have to share it with students. He also said that students who have been demanding question banks have been provided with the university circular for clarification.

His thoughts were echoed by Sobhana Vasudevan, the principal of R A Podar College Matunga, and Anju Kapoor, the principal of Usha Pravin Gandhi College. Both of them agree that the circular clearly mentions that the question banks are not to be shared with students. Instead, students would have to take mock tests, on which all college teachers were working. The final examination begins on 1 October.

The controller of examination of Mumbai University, Vinod Patil, could not be reached for an official comment.

According to the schedule, practical examinations for repeating candidates will begin on 15 September, and their theory examination will begin on 25 September. For fresh candidates, the examination will begin on 1 October and last until 15 October 2020.
