Bombay University and College Teachers Union (BUCTU) has demanded the cancellation of the first year degree college examinations. The Union approached the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mumbai (MU) and put forward their demands.
In a letter sent by the BUCTU to the Vice-Chancellor of MU, the degree college teachers have suggested that the first-year examination be postponed to the end of January, 2021. The letter also asked the Vice-Chancellor to release an official notice on the same as soon as possible.

The demands made by the teachers comes 2 weeks after the BUCTU had highlighted the problems plaguing this academic calendar in a separate letter. In their previous letter, they had informed the administration that most of the colleges have not been able to hold 90 days of classes before the examination.
Colleges have been unable to hold complete 90 days of classes because of the delay in the admissions of the first year students. Thus, it was impossible to hold examinations in the month of December. They further said that the students were not prepared for the examinations.
Through their letter, the teachers union expressed their disappointment over the lethargy of the administration. The University, instead of releasing an official uniform notice, has only slowly informed some colleges of the change in the examination schedule.

The BUCTU said in their letter that some colleges have been informed to start examinations in the 1st or 2nd week of January, 2021. On the other hand, many others have not received any kind of intimation from the University at all.
As per the November 18 circular released by the MU, colleges are supposed to start online exams of UG courses by December 2020. Similarly, the colleges were informed to hold PG examinations in the month of January 2020.
The letter further added that due to delayed admissions of the first-year students, their classes were started in October. Because of that many institutes have not conducted practical classes. So holding exams in December is both unviable and unfair to the students.
