IIT Bombay has released the Information brochure for GATE 2021 on August 07, 2020, The authority has made certain changes in the GATE Exam Pattern and Exam Centers.

IIT Bombay has released the Information brochure for GATE 2021 on August 07, 2020, The authority has made certain changes in the GATE Exam Pattern and Exam Centers. GATE 2021 will be conducted from February 05-14, 2020. however, the conducting body has stated that dates can be changed, subjected to the situation amidst COVID-19 pandemic. GATE 2021 Application Forms will be available from September 14 to 30, 2020.

IIT Bombay also mentioned that due to the seizure of international travel, Foreign Exam Centers can be excluded from conduction of the exam.

What are the changes in GATE 2021?

The brochure has put some light into changes that have been brought in GATE 2021, while previously GATE was conducted for 25 subjects, this year Exam for 27 Subjects will be conducted. Two new subjects namely Environmental Engineering (ES) and Humanity & Social Science (XH) have been added. Given below are the major changes in GATE 2021. 

  • A new Question Type has been introduced viz Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) apart from Multiple type Question (MCQ) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT)
  • Candidates can select Two Subjects to appear for the exam. The Combination of Subjects will have to be chosen from the prescribed Subject combination List. 
  • The Eligibility criteria for appearing candidates have been relaxed. Candidates in the pre-final year (3rd year of Graduation) can also appear for the exam. 
  • New Exam Centers have been added namely Jhansi, Dhenkanal, Chandrapur, Muzaffarnagar and Pala form IIT Chennai Zone has been dropped. 

It has also been mentioned that Exam Dates can be changed keeping in view the situation due to COVID-19 pandemic.
