SPPU to Decide Exam Dates not to Clash with UGC NET 2020

University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) began from September 24, 2020, Thursday, and will continue till November 13. On the flip side, SPPU will hold the regular examinations from October 10, 2020, to October 30, 2020. In addition, the University is all set to conduct its backlog exams from October 1 to October 9, 2020. 

While the Savitribai Phule Pune University has not announced the exact dates till now, there is a possibility that the dates including October 1, 9, and 17 will clash with UGC NET exams. 

Although, on Thursday, SPPU officials said that the exams would not overlap. They assured the students regarding it.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the UGC NET was unable to conduct the exams in the month of June. The admit cards for UGC NET exams prior to September 29, 2020, are available. The hall tickets for exams scheduled on September 29, 30 and October, were also available for download on September 24, 2020. 

Earlier, CBSE conducted the NET in 84 subjects until June 2018 at 91 cities. Since, in December 2018, the National Testing Agency holds the UGC NET.

A final year commerce student of SPPU expressed his concern, “The NET for commerce students is on October 17. But the university has said that they would hold their final year exams at the same time. Since they have declared no schedule, we are scared that one of the papers may clash with the NET.”

Apart from this, he also added, “All we want the university to do is to ensure there is no overlap. Ideally, the university should start the final year examinations after the NET or finish all papers before NET. ”

However, Mahesh Kakade, the director of examination and evaluation at Savitribai Phule Pune University, informed them they have not decided the schedule for the October exam yet.

“We will be doing so in the next two-three days, as we want to be sure it is not clashing with other examinations. Now that we know the NET dates, we will try to formulate the dates and session-time in such a way that students are not left to choose between which one to appear for. Students need not worry,” Mahesh Kakade added.
