SPPU to Not Provide Question Bank Ahead of Final Year Examinations

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) informed the final year students that they will not provide any question bank ahead of the examinations.

SPPU has decided on conducting all UG, PG exams from October 1 to October 30 in proctored mode. The exam will be conducted in the form of MCQs of aggregate 50 marks. The duration of the exam is 1 hour.

An SPPU official confirmed the news on twitter and said that for students’ ease of preparation, the university will conduct mock tests that will give them an experience of how the exam is going to be.

With Mumbai University deciding to provide students with a question bank for the MCQs test, students of SPPU final year also demanded the same. It was suspected earlier that a question bank consisting of 600 questions will be handed to the SPPU students.

Clarifying this, Mahesh Kakade, director, examination department, SPPU said,“There has been no decision to give question bank to students. We understand that the paper pattern is different than earlier years, still students can appear for the mock test and get an idea about the questions to be asked.”

He also informed the students that these mock tests will be conducted 3-4 days before the commencement of the exams. There are around 4,000 courses for which over 2.5 Lakh students have registered and to prepare a question bank for every course would be extremely difficult.

SPPU Officials are of the opinion that conducting examination without providing question bank would also ensure the purity of the exam.

Many students have felt the need for the question bank. They are worried as the previous years had subjective exams in an organized manner. Change in exam pattern is concerning them. Adding to this, since question banks for the same are not provided, they are feeling nervous and lacking confidence.

Most of the students living outskirts of the state has returned to their homes and do not have the required study material for examination. For them, a question bank would solve the issue. The students have also pleaded the university authorities to atleast send their study materials in PDF format.

A student from SPPU stated,” Colleges or departments concerned should at least give PDF files of the study material so that we can prepare for the examination. Taking mock tests three-four days before the examination will be too late for us to prepare for the final one.”

Another SPPU student highlighted that law is a theoretical and subjective/descriptive subject. An MCQ test in law makes no sense and they are clueless as to what they have to study. An exam pattern idea or mock test must be taken at least 10-12 days before the exam.

Earlier, SPPU released news relating to the exam mode and the admit card release

The University allowed students to appear for the exams in both offline and online mode out of which most of the students opted for online mode. 55 centres are allotted for the smooth conduct of exams.
