Tamil Nadu Universities to Conduct Final Year Offline Exams after September 15: KP Anbalagan


Tamil Nadu government is gearing up to conduct final year university exams after September 15. About 4 lakh students in arts, commerce, science, engineering and professional courses are yet to take exams.

As a fact, State Higher Education Minister, KP Anbalagan, asked students to start their preparations for exams. He even added, “The final semester exams for students in state universities and polytechnic colleges will be held after September 15.

The details of the exam schedule and exam centres will be released later. Arrangements are being made for all final year students to write exams in person.”

The minister also added that the admission process has begun and students can apply for B.Arch courses till September 7.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is ongoing and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) 2020 is scheduled to take place on September 13.

Following this, universities are temporary with the state’s decision to conduct pen-paper exams amid COVID-19 after September 15. The reason is, state-based universities have been in constant talk with the government to conduct online exams. 

On this, E Balagurusamy, former vice-chancellor of Anna University asked, “When the government can conduct physical exams for all final year students, why don’t they conduct arrear exams in a similar way.”

Education consultant, Jayaprakash Gandhi urged the government to support students by conducting exams in online mode.

He added, “When other students are exempted from semester exams, final year students alone are asked to write exams in person. 

Anna University is ready with the technology required for conducting online exams. They should conduct online exams for engineering students and maybe consider offline exams for others.”

Earlier, considering the requests from several students and also with regards to their welfare, a high-level committee had taken the decision as the official statement by Tamil Nadu CM, Edappadi K Palaniswami goes.

The state government of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, 26 August 2020, decided upon cancelling TN college or university exams for intermediate semesters in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
