TNEA Rank List 2020 Released; Sasmitha M S of Coimbatore Secures First Position, Check Details Here


In the TNEA rank list released on September 28, 2020, Sasmitha M S of Coimbatore scored the highest cut-off marks in the state at 199.67, with centums in maths, physics, and a perfect mark in chemistry.

Sasmitha state topper said she decided to opt to BE computer science at the College of Engineering, Guindy. “I then want to get placed in a dream company such as Facebook or Amazon, experience the work ambiance for a few years, come back, and take up civil services,” she further added.

On her achievement, she said, “Students, who study theory concepts instead of memorizing things, can score well. From class XI, as I focused on the JEE exam. The Class XI and XII syllabus were easy, and school teachers taught the lessons well, so I got 989 marks in the Class XII exam.”

Sasmitha completed her Class X with 490 marks out of 500 in KSR Matriculation School at Tiruchengode.

 Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) allotted the cut-off. The native of Namakkal secured the 989/1000 marks in the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education at Hyderabad, now resides in Coimbatore with her uncle, a forest official. Sasmitha wanted to take admission at IIT, but unsure of the JEE (Advanced) scores, decided on Anna University.

Similarly, Praveen Kumar, the rank holder, wants to pursue either electrical engineering or computer science at Anna University.

The TNEA committee secured ranks to 1, 12,406 eligible candidates, using a 10-digit random number for 791 candidates for breaking ties.

State Education Minister Views

 Anbalagan, the education minister has informed that they will conduct online counseling from October 1, 2020, to October 30, 2020. While for the special category, the counseling will be from October 1, 2020, to October 5, 2020, and for the general category, it will be from October 8, 2020, to October 27, 2020.

Anna University has 1,63,154 seats available in 461 colleges, a decline of around 9,786 seats over the last year, although the number of participating colleges was reduced to 461 from 479 in 2019-20. Colleges dropped 27,466 seats, increasing total seats available to 1.63 lakh from 1.35 lakh this year.

Furthermore, regarding the proposal to change the name of Anna University, the minister revealed they would do it after keeping the interests of all students and colleges in mind. He further stated that the state government would decide on any implication of a name change before the bifurcation.

Concerning the reopening of colleges, the education minister stated that the state government would take the last call only after assessing the number of colleges required for Covid-19 care centers. “Still, many colleges are functioning as such centers. We will assess the situation and make a decision,” he added.
